Need some help as I'm trying to decide between the EB or PB. I tow a boat thats around 7-8K pounds. With some average stuff in the back, tongue weight, and peeps, this easily exceeds my Tundra's 1030 pound payload limit. I definitely want to stick with a half ton, so I'm getting a 150, but wondering if by going with the PB I lose a ton of payload.

Looking at the chart, it looks like I will lose a couple of hundred of pounds compared to the EB.

I'm getting a loaded Lariat regardless of engine (no sunroof though), I was wondering what kind of real world payload I could expect (door sticker) on the PB compared to the EB. Any PB limited peeps mind checking their doors for a payload number?

TIA!

There are a few threads on this with payload stickers and options posted, do a search.

I was looking at this about 6 weeks ago myself, scoured this and other forums/reddit for payload stickers.

What my notes indicate is that Lariat with PB payloads were averaging around 1580 lb, and saw a range of 1313-1774

Had this same exact situation where I was configuring very payload conscious. I squeezed out ~1520 on a 502A with this
I just ordered almost the exact same thing except tow package instead of max tow... 1520 was more than I was expecting, awesome!

Our 501A 4x4 Screw PB comes in at 1650 Lbs.

Some of the things I avoided to keep our payload up:
  • Moon/Sunroof
  • Power running boards
  • Power tailgate
  • FX4 Off Road
  • Max Tow Package
  • 20" Wheels
  • B&O Unleashed

502A w/Sport Appearance, 4×4, Work Surface, Power Tailgate, 7.2kW ProPower, Rear Under-Seat Storage, & Tow Tech package, my payload is 1590#. I'm guessing real world payload is about 100# less as I got Line-X & a tonneau cover after delivery. Some day I'll weigh my truck to see though.

I hope my truck comes with that payload capacity. I, too, avoided those same items, hoping to max, as much as possible, the cargo capacity.

Nice numbers! I knew I was going to get spray in and would have preferred linex as it’s thicker and more coverage on the tailgate but I knew it was also that much heavier than the “thin” factory one.

I’ll also have to weigh the truck sometime as I added a tonneau and cat shield/skid plate. Cat thefts are so rampant and the Powerboost has 4 cats!

The Powerboost gets a 300lb GVW bump to accommodate the Hybrid gear. So there's not really a significant difference in final cargo capacity apples/apples.
There's a Ford document that lists curb weight penalties for each option. If you are diligent, you can get pretty close on the estimate.
But the post from @EricR above is a fantastic example of avoiding the biggest Payload hits that there is.

He didn't list the tailgate steps, but that's a hefty hit too. So is a spray in bedliner, surprisingly.

Mine's 1426 for a Lariat 502A with pretty much everything. Sunroof, power running boards, FX4, power tailgate, etc.

Sorry for the dumb question, but how does having the max towing package decrease your payload? I always just assumed it would raise you GCVW (or whatever it is) allowing you more payload.

Payload is an issue with me, I tow a Surf Boat that probably weighs 7-8K pounds. Ive never had the tongue weight measured but assume it's no more than 7% or so of the boat. I would love to go with the PB, but feel I would need at least 1400 of payload.

I currently tow with a Toyota that has les than 1100 pounds of payload. It does just fine so anything over would be fine I'm sure, but I just like being within limits on paper for peace of mind.
