What I really want is a luxury full size 4wd suv without 3rd row seating.

My wife got a 22 Expedition for the same purpose. The 3rd row drops down fairly flat. We simply keep the third row down and put a weathertech cargo mat over it full time. If we really need the space, the 2nd row also folds down to the same level.

I didn't know that about the Expedition either. I just want the expedition and explorer to get a new design. It doesn't look good and hasn't for a number of years. If it didn't necessarily follow the f150 design language, that'd be fine, but the Rivian R1S is absolutely destroying it in the exterior proportions and design department.

With the next 2024 f series, I don't see this getting better.

I'll agree that the Expy isn't exactly sexy.
But I cut it a fair amount of slack because it's an SUV.
I'm rarely visually smitten by the genre.
A Porsche or Lamborghini or Jaguar might dress up to catch my eye, but I don't know if they compete with the GM/Ford on room & utility? And those two aspects are absolutely the only thing that would get me into an SUV.

I've never owned one in my life.
I have and do own vans.
Never seen a good looking one either. OEM, that is.

I will say the current expy reminds me of the 13th gen F-150. I would not have bought a Ford if the trucks still looked like this. They look like girly trucks, like a man who wears a purse out and puts his hair in a bun would own one. Glad Ford did a U-turn and went back to big regular headlights. These ain’t it:

my 2016 expedition LONG wheel base i kept the 3rd row folded down a good bit
but even with it up we still had tons of room in the rear cargo area
dogs preferred the 3rd row down so they could sneak up to say HI
2015 to 2017 had the best looking front imo
the 23s are bad , but still not fetching

Ok, I know I’ll get flamed in this forum, but the Porsche Cayenne might surprise many. 7700lb tow capacity and upwards 1600lb cargo. Equip it the right way and I’d call it luxury AND capable of doing things with only seating for 4ish. I would never confuse it for a sports car though. If you need that level of confusion, step down to a Macan.

yup expeditions were the cats meow for 5 people, pets and luggage
we really liked ours and it fit or life perfect
hauled many sheets of 4x8 plywood in it as well
only draw back was front doors were short compared to the f150 or 250 and as a over 6 foot person and 255 at the time , caused me some head hits

i am on fence at putting a topper on the 150 now.
we may be getting a new pup and of course all the stuff in the back seat now...needs to go in the bed

I am a fan of the Expedition. We have a 22 stealth performance package Max limited.
With the third row down, there's a ton of space.
Plus, with the Raptor H/O 3.5 ecoboost, the thing boogies.

I think they look sharp if done nicely.

Ours is all stock except 23" Saleen F150 wheels and I blacked out the chrome belt line along the doors.

I pulled out the 3rd row from our minivan too.

(Little known to the family at the time, this was the first step in getting ready for truck-life, lol!!)

A 2005 Honda Odyssey I bought from an auction a couple years ago was amazing. You could fold down the 3rd row seat and it literally "disappeared" into the spare wheel well leaving you a flush trunk area.

Also the late 90s Volvo wagons were badass for trunk space. The amount of things I moved with that thing was crazy....and it had a roof rack too.
