"Old to New"- What did you drive before purchasing

What exactly do they do to winterize for Alaska? I can see running 0w-30 oil and block and battery heaters but is there anything else?

0w-30, change the coolant/water mix to 60/40. Add block (if not factory equipment) oil pan, and sometimes trans pan heater and a heated battery blanket that all run to a plug-in on the front of the truck.

Seems like overkill.

Im in the yukon and we get -45 as well.

Never had a problem starting even when block heater not plugged in.

I do plug in below -30 but no issues even when i dont.

had a 2019 F-F150, 2020 F-350, and a 2021 F-150 none have ever had issues with cold!

Lets hope the 2022 Keeps the tradition going..

I’ve been in Fairbanks Alaska for 10 years and every vehicle I’ve owned had the coolant changed and the heaters added to deal with the winters. I plug in at -10F generally just to make starting easier and warming up faster. I did forget to plug in my 2013 mustang when it was -62F but it still started… it wasn’t happy about it but it started!

We got rid of our 2019 Suburban LT in preparation for our 2022 Lightning which is on order. Hopefully, will be here this Spring.

Have a 2019 Volvo S60 T5 R Design and a 2019 V90 T5 R Design. Both are very enjoyable to drive and the V90 is awesome to look at - especially in Crystal White. No chance I will get rid of that.

wagons are the best. Here’s my T6. I had a T5 as a loaner and wasn’t as impressed but was still a smooth ride. Unfortunately wagons are so much more I ended up with the sedan.

I love that red. Ours had been on the lot for a year to the day when we bought it. Got a sweetheart deal. It is Pine Grey with the standard wheels. I would have preferred the 19” wheels, but this is the car my wife selected.

I hope the Ford folks don’t get upset that Volvo is interloping ?

Well back in the day Ford and Volvo used to be in bed together. So I think it will be allowed

My most recent regular drivers were a 2018 Chevy Colorado and a 2017 Corvette. Bought the Colorado new in 2018 and had CEL issues from 6 months of ownership until I sold it in Nov 2020. Every time I would hit the gas to pas someone or accelerate hard the CEL would trigger and throw a code, usually a cam lobe sensor. Chevy kept replacing parts but never solved the problem. They made a truck payment, gave me $1k in accessories credit and a few years free oil changes/tire rotation as "compensation.". I pressed to have the engine or entire vehicle replaced but they refused. So when I sold it I had given up on GM products for a while. I'm sure it was just a lemon in an otherwise highly regarded truck line, but the lack of problem solving turned me off. Most Colorado reviews are excellent.

That experience led me to look at the Ram, Tundra and F150. F150 won out by quite a bit. I included a pic of my new ride too.

So true. I had several Volvos from that era. And actually, they were pretty good. My favorite was my 2008 S80. My wife misses her 2006 XC90 V8.
