Thank you for the exceptional review and observations you've provided. I had a set of Pirellis on order and was teetering on changing to Cooper AT3 4s. Found them at Sams Club for $300 cheaper. We drove to Leadville and back over the weekend. Conditions were dry on the way up Friday. I'm very impressed with the Coopers for dry road performance. The ride was as smooth and quiet as the stock Hankooks, if not better, despite the more aggressive tread pattern. I'm not sure if the Pirellis I had were defective, or if their tread pattern accentuated imperfections in the road surface as at least one professional reviewer understated, but the comparison was night and day. Traffic was light Friday afternoon, so I pushed through the twists and turns of Fremont pass. Their dry road grip is excellent.
Conditions on the drive home Sunday were the perfect weather torture test for tires. The roads were snow packed from Leadville to Copper Mountain. It was a whiteout over Fremont. I never once lost traction under power (in 4A), or braking down the pass. I-70 from Copper through Silverthorne was icy and partially snow packed. Here again the Coopers inspired confidence. It was one of those 3 hour menageries from Silverthorne to Eisenhower, where at 9000' the road had yet to freeze hard so the uninitiated figured what's the big deal. A few miles (and an hour) later at 10,000' the surface was an inch of ice. Again, I never lost traction doing some nifty maneuvering around stuck vehicles, or dodging cars turned bobsleds.
After that 260 mile experience I can wholeheartedly recommend the Cooper AT3s.
The 285/60r20 are roughly 60lbs each? I've been considering staying stock size but going with the general grabber atx. Still not seeing a significant drop in L/100km? And how has been the snow performance? My second 2021 PB 502A Lariat FX4 (leadfoot) - picked up Dec 3, 2021- no level kit 33.5's (285/60R20) General Grabber ATx's - love the tires, quiet on the pavement. Avg. 10.2l/100km (computer) with winter blend 87 Octane. I only have 350km on the truck so, I am still feeling it out for mileage but love the ride and stance of the 33.5's.
My other 2021 PB 302A XLT (rapid red)- 2" level kit with 34's (295/60R20) Toyo AT3's that I have had since June 2021. love the tires, quiet on the pavement. Avg. 11.5l/100km (20.5mpg) all-round since ownership. The mpg was increasing as the truck was breaking in and I am seeing more on avg. 10.8-11l/100km (21-21.5MPG). The level kit does take an impact on MPG.
Any update? How are the tires doing on your setup and mpg?But the bullet and got a set of 275/65/20 Recon Grapplers. Just had a 2” leveling kit put on and the stock Hankook’s didn’t look horrible but just weren’t aggressive. Will update on mileage decrease after a week. Was averaging around 21.5 with a best 23.4 once prior to lift and tires
Mileage for me went to crap, my last highway trip from Houston to Dallas I averaged 18mph. I came back home and a week later put it back to stock tires and no 2" level and got 21.5 the next tank followed by 24mpg on the next. This truck no likey big tires! I'm m also beginning the fun unrelated transmission issues phase of this truck.!Any update? How are the tires doing on your setup and mpg?
Wow. Did you go with the "SL" rated tires or the LT "E" rated?Mileage for me went to crap, my last highway trip from Houston to Dallas I averaged 18mph.
