I decided in 2022 to figure out which oils on the Walmart shelf are best. I know Amsoil and Redline are great oils, but they are more or less mail order and I wanted to stick with what is on the shelf at Walmart. The rules for this test are it has to be available at Walmart where I can walk-in and buy it...and it has to be API SP.
Oils in the various reports are the following...Quaker State Ultimate Protection. Mobil 1 5W30 Extended Protection, Supertech Advanced, Supertech High Mileage, Supertech Full Synthetic, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, and Quaker State Euro 5W40 (its really a robust 5W30). Oils which will be tested in the future are Castrol Edge, Valvoline Advanced, and Valvoline Maxlife.
My personal conclusions so far are that Supertech Advanced is best for 3000 mile oil change intervals and Quaker State 5W40 Euro is best for 5000 mile intervals. Please come to your own conclusions. I know this is not a scientific test of the various oils. I simply dont have the resources to conduct a real scientific testing.
