My dealer uses synthetic blend as well.A lot of opinions out there... so I'll throw in my 0.02 here. I have a Mustang 5.0L motor head friend who does a lot of engine tear downs and upgrades. He swears that short trips and synthetic oil are the devil. That unless you drive long enough to get the syn oil good and hot that after shutdown/cool down the syn oil will crystalize/varnish/coat engine components like cams, lifters, rollers, underside of rings, etc. that builds up over time. The internet is full of documented cases of this condition. He adds what's worse is the synthetic oil says <extended oil changes>, don't do that either in the newer coyotes.
Me, I use MC 5w-30 syn blend and the MC FL500s filter. I change my oil every 5000 miles.
What do we believe?
I approve of your filter and oil selection but I am also interested in when most are doing their initial oil change. I was thinking around 3-5k mark also. After that, I plan on running 7,500 - 10,000 on full synthetic.Have this filter and penzoil platinum full synthetic 5w30 for the first change. Currently at 2500ish miles. I was thinking 3000-5000 changing it. Any advice? Thanks
I'm sure alot do, but I would go max 7500.I approve of your filter and oil selection but I am also interested in when most are doing their initial oil change. I was thinking around 3-5k mark also. After that, I plan on running 7,500 - 10,000 on full synthetic.
I had a 2013 3.5 and ran penzoil platinum full synthetic and the same oil filter. Never had a problem. 54k miles and almost 10 years old when I sold it.Dont know about the 5.0 specifically but I have been running the amsoil synthetic and their filters. Noticed the engine quieted down a hair. Seen the same results across 3 3.5 eb engines now.
I have two blackstone reports, going about 10-12k between changes. Plenty life left in the oil, I just done feel comfortable going longer.
Just found this thread after receiving my f 150 Lariat 5.0L coyote in January 2024. After many searches, I come up to the same conclusion as you did. Planing to keep my new truck for 15 years.
