Building a similar setup - where did you get the "box" for storage / sleeping deck?

When you load your bike, is that 2x4 block secured to the bed or you just secure the fork to the mounted 2x4 and lean it against the side of the bed with the rachet strap?

I was wanting to make a pull-out slider shelf for the bike mount but might be easier said than done.

The 2x6 is just to stabilize the bike with the bars spun sideways to save room.

I built the storage box.
My F-150 thread, see page 5 for the box build.

IMO Slide out units/drawers/ etc take up space with the slides/brackets and add complications I don't want. KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid! 😂🤣

Did 5000 miles with this tent last summer, while waiting for my topper. Had it stowed under a soft tonneau cover, just folded down like a Bimini and it would go up in 5 or so minutes.

Have now had the topper since November and have been very happy with it. Many many nights in it.

What cap do you have that installed on? Looks like a nice setup.

Love all the posts !
I've been happy using dome ground tents for years. LOL Like the light weight, ease of use, low cost and low center of gravity on the trail. Bunch of our group use Gazelles T4 etc, RTT's and trailers. All good. Also If we setup camp for more than 1 night then go wheeling I'm good to go.

Have to admit though solo camped a few times in bear and mountain lion areas and jumped out of tent and slept in the truck cab. LOL Just got slip on window nets for those occasions.

Pic of my New Coleman 2P sundome, $24.99 next to Gila river New Mexico last month, almost perfect. Love my old Wenzel 3P for last 20 yrs still. Both full tub made of tarp ! , a must have, for quick overlanding and rain without footprint. Have nice Alps Mountaineering Lynx 3 person I use in winter snow camp. Thinking about a Coleman darkroom (desert). I have Wenzel 10 person modified dome for family 3 kids, 2 dogs. Doing a desert night run this Fri. No bugs and hot so I just sleep in the bed on my Thermarest Mondo King XXL. (SuperCab with 6.5' bed)Some guys n gals just sleep on a cot in sand, (avoid the little scorpions). For me the Mondo king is a must have always on any surface.
My perfect overlanding tent: tough and fast, full tub made of real tarp not thin tent material, free standing dome, (only needs 4 corner stakes/pegs optional), Aluminum poles (vs fiberglass ok), clip on not sleeves,(ok) Always upgrade to big nail like pegs, rain fly attaches to corners, (guy lines optional for wind/rain) need a BFH (hammer), Fits my XXL thermarest 80 inches with room so head/feet don't hit sides at night, I'm 6 foot, (usually means 7 foot or 82", best 7'6", so 2P,3P or more), Base camp tent (tough) not necessarily backpacking.
OK Writing too much again. Just been researching testing, still trying to find perfect tent.
Kelty, Marmot, North Face, and back to Coleman LOL

Why do you have to loosen and spin the bars? Couldn't you just turn the bars 90* which would also turn the forks the same direction? Or then the 2x6 is not stable enough?

When the forks are turned the dropuots are no longer parallel to the floor. Won't sit flat. It's quick and easy to loosen 2 allen bolts.

in the bed or on top of the roof?
I prefer to pitch for truck mobility etc. Quick night any quick set backpack tent. Multiple nights something like this my Kodiak Canvas 10'x10'. Basically a portable cabin.

currently, my truck has a tri-fold tonneau cover, in order to install an awning, do i have to install some kind of rack first in the truck bed to mount the awning hardware? anyone with this setup please post pictures, need some ideas. thanks.

After a fun 18 day trip out west camping (some may have seen my post on trip from ON to AB), we decided to pull the trigger on a rtt. Smittybilt XL was delivered this weekend. End goal will be to convert our little 5x8 utility trailer, change out the axle and tires, put a cage on it and move the tent back there. Asked the family if they wanted to trade in our travel trailer yet and the looks I got.🤣
