I question why you would want to have the shifter fold up and down with every key cycle? Adding extra wear and tear on the unit.

I agree, these things are over engineered and cheaply made. Almost feels like ford sub'd it out to Nintendo. I kringe every time I use it normally, would never want to increase cycles for no reason.

My wish would be that when Ford looks to reduce 2000+ different parts from the assembly of the F-150 they could take this over engineered antique and streamline it with a push button or rotary shifter. This alone might shave off a hundred parts. :)

I agree; the stowable shifter feels cheap so I don't use it much. If it wasn't so suspect I'd be using the work surface a whole lot more than I do.

But it would be cool if there was an option to stowaway at shutdown (and pop up at start) if it were better made.

(I have the same "cheapness" concerns with the fold in/out power mirrors.)

Or have it stay flat and just press d
I like the shifter ad it's easy to select gears or lock them out while driving
I hate having to grabb the stalk on other cars to down shift etc
It's like flying..every thing needs to be easy intuitive reach.
Might be why my left Arm is wore out. From controlling the wheel

I have the work surface and use it all the time. Having that makes the shift storing a nice feature.

I think that Ford regards auto folding while driving as a safety issue and thus actively refuses to do it. Broadly, the simple solution is to be rid of the shifter and have a knob that takes up almost no space (look at the Ram for a great example.....basically the Ford driving mode shifter changes gears in a Ram). If there were a way to do this as a mod, I would pay $500 to get my center console back.

Unfortunately they didn't let you keep that in a sport package. I don't hate the console shifters you still get a little cubby with the new design but the column is just the king of it all .
