Best is 20 mpg avg with a 3.5L Ecoboost driving in Eco with State-mandated 10% ethanol and not speeding on county roads. Best fill is 644 miles to empty. At 20 mpg and 36 gallons that should be 720 miles at full but have never been close to that. But I like the fuel capacity and rarely go below half before filling it up.

Normally I get about 630-650 out of my 21 Lariat. A couple of times I hit the 700 mark.

This thread is making me wonder why I got a PowerBoost...
If Nathan had a PB he would probably be getting 32 mpg or higher, probably 30% electric is my guess. The terrain is perfect, the speed is perfect, and he knows how to drive. After 25,000 miles in my PB I have an overall 22 mpg with at least 10,000 miles at 80 mph on flat interstate.

Wow I would have come impressively close to that with the 157” 5.0 3.73. Gauge said just under a quarter tank and 80 miles remaining after 600 miles.

I have noticed a very slight improvement after updating the PCM on my 5.0l v8. I think the new strategy may have changed the cylinder deactivation tables a little in the PCM.

I am toying w running it totally dry and then filling with a 5gal backup to get past the lighter dry curb weight scenario. I wonder though if that’s harmful to the fuel pump? I did that when I first got my explorer and it did not seem to cause any issues after getting to fume mode.

I don't hypermile, but just drive with the pace setting crowd. The Powerboost only has a 30 gallon tank but it pretty much gets the same miles as my 36 gallon tank did on my previous Ecoboost.

This is my second Powerboost and seems to be settling in nicely.

Easily 650+ miles per tank. (207 + 482 = 689)

I rarely go lower than half a tank but have tried a few times to see what kind of range the 36 gallon tank gets and even going down to 20-50 miles indicated until empty a couple times the tank only took 26 gallons.

Once on a round trip to California I went 650 miles on a tank and took it down to zero miles until empty and it still only took 30 gallons and change. I would be curious to know how much of the remaining 5 gallons was useable.
My findings exactly. I have been pulling a camper trailer (6500lb) with my 21 Eco 3.7. When the trip computer says that I am dead empty, it still has ~6 gal.
10mpg interstate 65mph is all she will muster but grocery getting is good - - - often 23 24MPG

UPDATE!

I filled up today at 762 miles on the tank - so close to 800! It took a little over 31 gallons.

I probably would have made it to 800, but had pretty high winds on a 140 mile trip.

UPDATE!
my 22 XLT v8 with 36 gl tank. the gas gage always says I’m outa gas at 30 gallons. If I buy gas at about the 100 miles left it takes 24-25 gallons to fill it.

I filled up today at 762 miles on the tank - so close to 800! It took a little over 31 gallons.

I probably would have made it to 800, but had pretty high winds on a 140 mile trip.
Did u drive it past zero miles available? I’m starting to wonder if we actually have the wrong gage float or why it would be so far off. I’m constanly finding the computer is accurate for mpg. But I want to drive the last 100 miles. Just don’t want to find out I don’t have a 36 gallon tank the hard way. Anybody figure this out?

If you could see that fuel pump sitting submerged and "cooled" by the fuel, and then compared it to one standing dry and warm above a remnant of fuel pooled at the bottom of the tank.......

Sure, it's a warranty repair if you are still in warranty, but I wouldn't recommend running the tank close to dry unless you actually are caught out.
