The manual park release feature can only be used if the vehicle has some 12v power, enough that ignition can be set to the on position. Key on Engine off. In your case it sounds like this may not have been possible.

My trucks fully updated in FDRS as of 3/28/24 with no updates available, and I still get phantom updates from time to time. I think its part of life now! ;):)

There is newer software available for you apim. Because you upgraded to the 12" screen FDRS does not recognize the APIM you installed as being correct for the truck. You will need to somehow sideload the software in order to move forward. This is beyond my knowledge.
