Hello everyone,

i have the same issues, I have pumped several times at very low DTE and have only been able to fill up with 31 Gallons and only get 483 miles to empty, on my 21 Tremor with 36 gallon tank, with 1600 miles on it, ( I also recently purchased a 21 Honda Accord and the DTE was also not calculating the correct DTE, it’s at 1800 miles now and it did learn to calculate, but that’s not the same issue with this 21 F150,) I also didn’t have this issue on my 19 F150 Lariat with same 36 g tank, on my 19 I used to fill up with 34 or 35 Gallons at the pump, well to make story short, I drove up to ford service and spoke to the service GM, and he advised me to drop off the truck, so they can drop down the Gas Tank and verify if I do have a 36 Gallon tank and that if I do, they will be reprogramming the gas cluster to see if that fixes the DTE issues. I dropped it off this morning and they told me it would be about 2 days before they can give me an update. I will update Y’all once I get updated.

Great post. Look forward to hearing what they tell you. When I picked up my truck from the dealer at purchase, it said 638 miles to empty. I let it get down to about 50 miles to empty and then filled up. Only got 28 gallons, tank read full, but DTE was at ~550. Now after I leveled my truck and put on 34s, full tank reports 485 DTE. Does the computer use avg mileage to custom calculate a personal DTE??

Update,

I picked up my truck back from the dealer after a week of them experimenting with it, they lifted the truck to check to see if I had the 36 Gallon tank, after verifying that it was a 36 gal tank, they moved forward with running the gas gauge to 0 DTE they left my truck on all day, after that, they filled the gas tank to see how much it would take in, so what they came up with was that it fill up with 34 Gallons, they say that it has a 2 Gallon Reserve after you hit 0 DTE, so that was their conclusion. Now I have to verify myself and she what happens from there.

I just experienced the same issue. My local Ford dealership technician said there is a 5-gallon reserve on the 36-gallon tank. I have serious skepticism about that, these vehicles were manufactured during the COVID-19 shutdown when the manufactures were sending vehicles to dealerships without certain computer chips due to shortages, My thought is did they toss a smaller tank into our vehicles to put units on dealer lots? Sounds like a class-action lawsuit in the making

I filled up last Saturday
20ish miles to empty ( that big yellow warning is annoying)
32.4 gallons,
so I would suspect between 2-3 gallons at 0 miles to empty.

I don’t normally run that low, but I was determined to not fill up a day early.
im in the habit of filling every other Saturday morning, wether I need to or not.

Appreciate finding this thread.
My soon to be mine f150 has a 36.

Experience with multiple other vehicles varies. One DTE really does mean that. No reserve. I freaked wife out in her car but got to the gas station with 1 gallon left. She'd never seen that light on before. Two others have 60 miles left when the low fuel warning comes on.

I've found that when you get down to less than 200 MTE, that the fillup shows it was accurate. As to running dry... the fuel pump is in a "bucket" so it's cooling is taken care of regardless of overalll tank level. But if you do run it dry and the pump stopps pumping, in my experience the pump will fail withn 10,000 miles. This is because the pump is lubricated by the fuel it pumps. As an aside when you replace the pump, after you refill the tank let is stand for awhile before starting to let the fuel displace the air in the pump. I've concluded that the pump should be replaced at about 100,000 miles intervals just on GP.

Finally took it down to the "ding" and filled up with 29 to empty. My "lie-o-meter" shows an average of 15MPG. It took just shy of 31 gallons, so I'd guess 2 gallons or so to 0 MTE and 2 or so gallons of hidden reserve. Correlates with your data point.

My 2016 also had the 36 gallon tank and when I’d get down to 20 miles to empty I was putting in 32-33 gallons.
Same with my 2016. I don't think I've ever put in more than 33 gal. even when I've run it down to zero miles left.

This is weird.
just picked my truck up from the body shop (Mother Nature beat the crap out of with hail).
Roof, windshield and hood required replacement, so I am not understanding this new anomaly at at all.
Filled the truck up at the same station and pump I have used since I bought the truck.
DTE showed 40, fuel gage read <1/8.
(was 1/4+when I dropped it off over 40 days ago, and about 40 miles added probably from an outside PDR shop)

Took right at 25 gallons, gage reads full, but the DTE only went up to 466.

Usually it goes up to 650-722
Generally fill at around 500-600.

DTE has been creeping up a bit in the last few miles, but has not gone past 466.

could this be due to the body shop accessing modules for airbag related stuff, or a disconnected battery for a period of time.

The truck did disappear for a couple of days when I checked FordPass.. Nowhere to be found on the map.

They would have to disconnected the battery to work on the truck... lots of wires up in the head liner. Some modules may have the calculations tables way out of wack due to time the battery was disconnected. I would give it sometime to realign itself.

I can't afford to let my tank get below half, to hard of a hit on the bank account all at once...lol.
36 gallon tank = 136 liters times $1.789 per liter in Winnipeg = $243.31 to fill from bone dry.

If I was in Vancouver, gas is $2.199 per liter...that works out to $299.06
