ECU module programming guide using FDRS

I'm a patient old geezer.
I'd try the first offer and just use the truck with the USB stick hoping for the eventual KICK. It's a good Ole fashioned stare-down with the APIM. Seeing which one is going to blink first. If you don't remove the USB, then the only one that can blink is the APIM.

It's worked for many fellas, but not 100%.

Yeah, i'm gonna give it a little bit of time. I will add some interesting info about the dealerships that have worked on this truck. The VIN history from FDRS is really handy to get a sense of the work thats been done of the truck. I went back as far as I could and documented all the failed attempts at an APIM update. Huge fail on this one... Looks like they repeatedly tried to update things without a charger hooked up. Then they ran the module repair tool and likely didn't have the USB/Ethernet adapters they needed. According to the TSB, you have 20 days or 15 attempts from the first attempt to complete the module repair, after that the VIN is locked out. Based on this its was locked out around July 6th, 2022.

You shouldn't be surprised by the number of Gen14 F150 VIN with similar "history" at the dealership.

It's disheartening to someone who is a fan of the truck and knows how nice they can be when they are properly configured. (updated)

That one single APIM update, has stifled so many trucks and soured so many folks with the truck that they should have been enamored with.

Just kills me when I think about it.

I hope YOU flip that story on one of these trucks. Sounds like the right fella has the keys to this one now.

A new DSP update dropped on FDRS this morning. Not sure what it does or if it will eventually be released OTA. I don’t see any new SSMs or TSBs discussing it. But, it’s there.

Yes the usb fdrs leave it in. Never take it out until you get a message that update successful

There is nothing for the dealer to do either they replace the apim or it. They have no special magical tool that you don’t. Once it’s locked out it’s done.

No.. Not sure what it is for.

Possibly for the static issues that some people were having in the B&O where it would crackle loudly.

Ill have to see if I see a TSB anywhere that links to the update.

I just ran the DSP update. However, after FDRS saying that the update successfully completed, it still shows up as an available update.

I would recommend staying away from this DSP update. Not only does it still show as a pending update after install, but it triggered an ABS fault notification via FordPass. That's not cool. It of course triggered a bunch of other DTCs, but I was able to clear those.

C'mon Ford, get your sh*t together.

Same here. DSP software version did not change. But there appear to be configuration changes to the BCM and IPMA. I have no explanation.

Maybe @Jesse-Infotainment has some insight. I'm getting tired of this crap. I might have to stop doing any updates until we can be sure Ford won't brick our trucks.
