Reserved within first 15 minutes, but dealer just told me I won't get a Lightning until 2023.

This is what I just got from one of the bigger Ford dealers in Pittsburgh when I asked about an update. Ugh

“Ford has allowed us to prioritize out first 25 reservations. Out of the 25 they took 4 reservations to convert to actual orders. Also they have informed us that that is all they are going to take for the rest of the 22 Model Year. Now they may take another round but it is unlikely. If I hear anything different I will be sure to pass it on. “

Similar reply from my dealer.
"we only have 5 thus far and are waiting to see if we will be allocated any additional. Thank you for your patience."

Reserved 830pm 5/19. 17th at my dealer in CO. Looks like they prioritized the 10 in front of me. Not expecting a vehicle before next year.

Hopefully they get rid of the dealerships

This is similar to my experience. It doesn't matter to Ford that I placed my reservation during the live unveiling. Ford allowed my dealer "prioritize" customers (essentially allowed people to cut in line) who ordered after me. As a result, I was not even close to getting to order a truck this year. My dealer only has 1-2 allocations, and after prioritizations I was bumped to 15th in line.

I’ve purchased 3 vehicles from my dealer in the last 9 years. Is a contractor who buys 2 new Super Dutys every year going to bump me? Of course, he is. Do I like it? No, but I understand it.

That doesn't make any sense. There is no good reason why a system for selling vehicles such as this exists. You should never be ok with that happening.

If I have a hotel reservation, I don't worry that the hotel will bump me and give my spot to somebody they like more.

If I reserve a book at the library, I don't have to worry that a regular customer liked more by the librarian will come take the book before I can pick it up.

If I make a reservation at a restaurant, I fully expect to get a table when I arrive. I've never had a restaurant bump me and give my table to a VIP.

Reservations are reservations... Regardless of the industry.

Why you think it's ok for a dealer to bump people with reservations is mind boggling. That defeats the entire purpose of the reservation.

Please read what I wrote. I did not say I was OK with it.
I said “I don’t like it!”

Reading is fundamental.

I definitely read your post... including the part where you said, "Do I like it? No, but I understand it."

Perhaps I didn't quite understand your point. It came across to me as though it was somehow justified or "understandable" for dealers to do this.

I should have said “I understand their motivation for doing it.”

I think it’s all about how they handled it. If they would have sent a priority reservation system to current ford owners, before opening it up to the public, people wouldn’t be as upset.
That’s how all sporting events work. Season ticket holder? Priority for the playoffs. Partial season pass? Next in line. Bought a few games, you get a follow up email.
New fan wanting to watch the playoffs for the first time in person? You’re probably buying second hand.

The problem was that ford opened the reservations with the presentation and then implemented the priority system afterward.

For me its just the not knowing part. I understand I will have a considerable wait as demand far exceeds supply. But will that wait be 6 months..a year..18 months..longer? No idea. If Ford just said.."we expect to produce 15,000 units by Fall '22" up to 150k reservations converted by Fall of 2023 I'd have some idea. Also, I have no idea whether I am #50,000 or #120,000 in line. Just give me some sort of clue Ford...some idea of where I am in the pecking order.

I just feel this is an open ended, long term relationship.
