this type of email is simply ridiculous:
A) it is generic, and does not say anything to your SPECIFIC order
B) it does NOT make it clear 'what' timeframe it is referring to, whether orders placed already, or simply the 'start' of any production orders for the Lightning line
C) it comes across as...
interesting, too, that it alludes to 'Series/Options', although I'm not aware of what 'Series' would be referring to, unless this email was actually miss-typed and meant for BRONCO order customers.... very strange, Ford.
it's interesting that I have yet to receive ANY email from Ford, about my order on Jan 6th, which the system shows as a scheduled production week of 5/30, and yet I receive THIS email, which is vague, generic, and not very sensible for anyone's personal situation....
with Chargepoint, you don't actually have to have an account, or a card, you use the 'guest' feature and simply skip the signin and all that - you do have to input your card info each time, but, if you have it all memorized like I do...no biggy.
Plug & Charge should be included with the Lightning, but the Equipment provided at the charge point is what allows that to happen - I'm sure that over time this will become the 'default' action whenever plugging in an EV, but, for now, it's hit and miss.
As far as I know, it's simply the ability...
Property owners have never yet had to concern themselves with this EV charging 'infrastructure' installation and costs before, so it's safe to assume that many will be hesitant, even if some of their renters are asking for it. I suspect that it will become more of a 'we have Charging options...
Ford designed the mobile charger to use the optional 240v 50amp NEMA 14-50 outlet for various reasons - this is the outlet sizing that provides not only the 30amps of power, and more, but can be available for upgrading to higher amperage charging at a later date. Also, this is a very COMMON...
it is true that the 'balanced' load of the EVSE 50amp plug does not need, nor require, the use of a Neutral wire. While the NEMA 14-50 50amp outlet/plug CAN make use of the Neutral, for other uses, most folks will wire it that way - but, I absolutely see that you, as a homeowner, can do what...
as an EV owner, two Nissan Leafs/2014/2015 models for several years, and now even an electric 'hybrid' plug-in Kia Sorento, and having discussions with many folks who 'question' the validity and their 'fear' of how EVs actually work, I have some thoughts:
- homeowners have most all options...
as my wife and I came back thru Cordele, GA, right off interstate I75 N/S between Detroit and S Florida, which MANY MANY vehicles travel everyday, we noticed the Walmart ElectrifyAmerica 8 post DC Fast Charger station had not a single vehicle, while the brand new 10 station TESLA SuperChargers...
and just like most apartment and townhome complexes have to expand, expand, and add more and more parking options for the shear numbers of 'cars per household', as compared to only 20 years ago, those same 'rental' families will need 'at home' charging options - with new apartments and complexes...
the reality is the 'gas station' will NOT be the one footing the investment for this electrical infrastucture, but a third party company, like ChargePoint, where the gas station owner provides the 'footprint' place for the charging, and collects a small fee on each charge. The gas station owner...
I certainly thinks it's the best usage of money to expand thru the Interstate Road system to start with, as long distance travel is what is holding back most new EV buyers. DC Fast Chargers in rural towns and areas seems to be something that will come with time, as most in those areas probably...
add the all-new KIA SORENTO PHEV(PLUG IN) SX PRESTIGE to the list - our new one is FANTASTIC, and I'm an owner of two Nissan Leafs and the new F150 LIGHTNING coming in a few months.... you can run on ALL ELECTRIC for all your local daily commutes to work, and grocery, etc, but use the very...
well, 4-down towing certainly ain't this... this is trailer towing.
it's a shame you have such a big truck, and yet you have to haul around 'another' truck... what a waste. That's also a lot of work - it ain't nearly as 'easy' making all that 'work' for travel and camping as most of us might...
Yes, agreed, although I never really heard the details of GM's 'issues' with those batteries, though many Bolt owners loved the vehicle, itself. I've driven a Nissan LEAF 'old school' EV for several years, and my son, at college, even longer, and have never had a single issue with the battery...
I think some of us 'nerds', if there's not a better term to use, will be most interested in all these 'data' points and electrical 'anomalies', but I think the vast majority of Ford's bread-and-butter F150 buyers will have little interest or care about the 'differences' that 'might' have been...
