Figured I'd share my experience doing a self repair to my 2021 F-150, XLT Sport 4wd, SCREW, 2.7l, Oxford White truck. A lot of people have the peeling paint up in the rain channels due to Fords piss poor QC and paint. It's not perfect by any means but cheaper than paying what I was quoted by multiple paint shops ($2,500-$3,500+) and better than the paint continuing to peel. The driver side was way worse than the passenger side. This was my first attempt at any kind of paint repair so I'll take it as a win. Hopefully it holds up!
My truck had been peeling in the channels and only getting worse. After going back and forth with Ford they refused to cover it and them admitting its been a problem for years.
1. Wet sanded, wet sanded, wet sanded and wet sanded some more. 600, 1000, 1500, and 2000 Grit.
2. Cleaned the paint with some paint prep.
3. Got a can of primer from Parks Automotive Finishes, they mixed a spray paint can to match door color code, 2k clear coat (photos attached). Put on primer, paint and clear coat.
4. Wet sanded more.
5. Took my DA polisher and compounded/polished.
It wasn't that hard of a task...I was more annoyed with Ford and their BULLS#!*. It took me a day and a half to complete the painting in the garage as I took my time. Then another day to iron remove, clay bar, compound, polish, ceramic the whole truck.
