I decided to regain some of the mpg lost with my Nitto RG 295/60/20. After much contemplation and study I landed on the Toyo AT3 as the best compromise of off road capability and fuel efficiency. I prefer the look of 285/60/20 and Toyo offers that in a lighter package than most, but ultimately went with 275/60/20. Might as well go with the lighter of the two plus 285 non LT are scarce.
The 295s got 19.4 mpg over the last 2500 miles compared to 23 on stock Hankooks. I’ll update after I adjust the speedometer and get a few miles on the Toyo 275s.
Comparing the Nitto and Toyo ( E rated vs SL rated) is interesting. The Toyo are a little softer riding but not a huge difference. The Toyo might be SLIGHTLY quieter? The sound produced by each is somewhat different- I think the Toyo is a little higher frequency which makes sense considering the smaller tread blocks. I’m not sure if it’s a less comfortable background noise or if it’s just different and new so I’m noticing it more.
Shout out to @Discount Tire for hooking me up with a promotion I didn’t see on their website and setting up the order with my local store. Tires ordered at noon and installed same day. Can’t beat that!
