Yesterday I decided to change out the transfer case (TC) fluid. This is an incredibly simple procedure. However I have the TC skid plate which has to come off unless you want the fluid to drain onto the plate and make a gigantic mess.
The skid plate is attached to the frame with 8mm bolts and captured nuts. When I went to remove the two bolts on the main frame both captured nut retainers broke inside the frame and expletives were spoken! To get the bolts out I ended up cutting the bolt heads off. Luckily I was able to fish out the captured nut and attached bolt, minus the head, from the frame.
When I reinstall the TC skid plate and new hardware I will be removing the factory applied loctite and using anti-seize instead.
