While FORD plays Hide-The-Ball with details and the internet “auto reviewers” miss the mark as they focus their attention to expanding creative writing skills: Can anyone help me tackle this question and help me find an answer to this mystery? The known facts and dollar amount makes this too hard to ignore.

I have spent hours trying to complete a thorough cost analysis of two near identical builds to support a fact-based order/buy decision, and I have decided at this point to raise the white flag and ask for help. Any inquiring minds out there with the resource or time on their hands willing to tackle this riddle?

This involves:
2022 F-150®
XLT Regular Cab 8’ Bed HDPP
BASE MSRP
$41,855 *1
OPTIONS & ACCESSORIES + $11,700
DESTINATION CHARGES + $1,695
TOTAL MSRP = $55,250

Vs.

2022 F-150®
XL Regular Cab 8’ Bed HDPP
BASE MSRP
$34,935 - $6,920 [- $4,670 ]
OPTIONS & ACCESSORIES + $13,950 + $2,250
DESTINATION CHARGES + $1,695
TOTAL MSRP = $50,580 -$4,670

-Mid-Analysis ASSUMPTIONS-

No XL Options will provide SecuriCode® – Keyless-Entry Keypad
No XL Options will provide Remote Start System with Remote Tailgate Release
No XL Options will provide Power Seats
No XL Options will provide Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirrors
No XL Options will provide Power Windows
No XL Options will provide Visor Vanity Mirrors
XL High Power Equipment Group WILL PROVIDE Power/Remote Door Locks
XL 40/20/40 Cloth bench seats appear different – XL doesn’t list a description as having XLT's open console/under seat storage features
ABOVE differences GROSSLY FAIL to justify IMO the overall $4,670 cost difference added to the XLT's price tag.

----- So exactly what are the complete material feature differences between these otherwise nearly exact, fully loaded F-150 XLT RCLB HDPP (+ $4,670) and the fully loaded F-150 XL RCLB HDPP? What unknown valuable features/items justify the bottom-line, seemingly unaccounted-for $4,670 cost difference?

The XLT will have more cresture comforts. It's one thing to build a truck on the website it's a whole other thing to go to a dealership and actually sit in and see what you're buying and see what the differences are between an XL and an XLT. The XL is more of a work based or Fleet stripped down to the basics truck. Im sure theres a difference in the available technology packages between the two.

You listed the differences between the 2.
No power seats in XL. No power tailgate. No remote start on keyfob. No autodim mirror. Not auto headlights. No security touch pad Etc etc. Etc.

I dont get the confusion. The XLT has more stuff. Stuff is not free.

You might want to take some time going through the order guides line by line. You were very thorough, but did miss a few things:

XLs do come with power mirrors in the Power group

There's some bigger differences like:

  • XLT comes with Aluminum wheels vs steel. That's about $1K at least for OEM wheels.
  • XLT comes with rear defroster standard

Lots of little things that probably add up like:
  • Delayed Accessory Power
  • Door trim – Soft armrest, grab handle and front map pockets
  • MyKey®
  • Perimeter Alarm
You missed a few things in 301a, but those would basically be reflected in the 301a pricing, not the base. However removing these thing would shrink the difference down to $3600.

That's just what I could spot on a quick peruse. You might want to print the pages out and go item by item with contrasting pens.

Also, Incase you hadn't heard, you can't order 360 cams wherever they are optional for the rest of MY22. Only on trims where it's included.

I am amazed that you could buy a 2022 F150 without electric windows.
I wanna see a picture of the window crank. I don't know about that. Lol

We purchased an XL CrewCab Powerboost with no options except the 7.2KW generator.

We outfitted aftermarket for towing prowess and work in security areas. It's not our grandpa's XL, I can tell you that. A lot of truck for $43k MSRP

Don’t forget resale value into this thread 😂 no one’s buying a xl used unless they’re about to run it to the ground on a construction site. So your 5k is simply turned non existent when the xlt holds its value. I know someone will say yes they will but let’s be real not for a price close to what you’ll get for even a xlt.
Yes you are right. Thanks for reply and thanks to everyone else who replied. I guess I didn't think electric seats et al cost so much. My F-150 sales guru straightened me out about resale value of a RC XL too! Was looking to cover all bases, not overlook something when making decisions. Will go with a Black 2022 5.0 XLT Supercab FX4 Sport Max Tow for trade.

Thats a pretty lame statement.
XL's sell just as fast as any other model.

Or do you know of a bunch of used XL's on a lot for the last 10 years waiting for a buyer?

I’m not going to get into a pissin match with you but if you think an xl will hold any value like a xlt or above you’re sadly mistaken. Sure they’ll sell fast contractors beat the shit out of their trucks and need new ones all the time lol My statement is about a 5 grand up charge that will easily be returned when selling the vehicle down the road “if not more”.
You are working under the assumption that the only XL's that are sold are stripped down work trucks. This is not accurate.

Here is a list of used XL within 50 miles of my house. Not many beat up contractor trucks.

You call it a pissing match. I call it a learning oppurtunity. And maybe you will learn something and stop spreading misinformation

I sold my 11 year old XL in 1 day for $10k less than I paid for it new. Lots of buyers for a good used XL.

he’s actually right. Sold ford for years. No one wants an xl. The xlt will have a much better resale as well and be a more desirable truck for resale. You’re the one spreading misinformation bud

If the XL new cost 5k less, shouldn't it sell as used for $5k less?

I'm not pickin sides, but down here where F150's are the Camry and everyone has one in the driveway, if it's in good condition it's going to sell no matter what. :)

My employer purchased an XL Powerboost for the aircraft maintenance department and after the fellas have used it for a few months there's a few of them arguing over who's buying it when the corporate lease is up. It's won a couple of Ram guys over even.

No one is saying it WONT sell.

A turd would sell to the right buyer.

But there may be 3% of buyers who would consider an XL, where there are 50% who would consider an XLT.

XLT is the best selling trim by a mile.

It is the most desirable as it offers the best VALUE.

Its the same as F-250 Vs F-350.

I would always push people fo go 350 when considering between the 2.

Someone who needs a 250 could also consider a 350, where someone who needs a 350 couldnt even consider a 250.

Its all about opening up your potential sales market to be larger.

Simple.
