No one is saying it WONT sell.

A turd would sell to the right buyer.

But there may be 3% of buyers who would consider an XL, where there are 50% who would consider an XLT.

XLT is the best selling trim by a mile.

It is the most desirable as it offers the best VALUE.

Its the same as F-250 Vs F-350.

I would always push people fo go 350 when considering between the 2.

Someone who needs a 250 could also consider a 350, where someone who needs a 350 couldnt even consider a 250.

Its all about opening up your potential sales market to be larger.

Simple.
According to Edmonds, in 2021 the XL was the second most popular (most sold)
F150 Trim. Your guessed at percentages are way off. Yes, XLT is most sold. XL is second.

And are you really telling all those on here that the truck they just bought is a turd?

Oh, and according to sales figures over the past 6 years, the XL and King Ranch had the same depreciation at 39% from 2015 to 2020.

Lol this is getting funny at this point and you proved my very first comment to be true so thank you.. all I wanted to point out to the og thread was that yes you may pay 5k more for an xlt but it’s not like you’re going to loose 5k in the long run. Simply trying to point out that getting the better of the two won’t matter in the end. Unless you can’t afford 5k over the life of the loan then yes don’t go broke over 5k. I feel now “You” as well as I have made the point and you can take your anger elsewhere now.
Lol. You need a math refresher.

Youre hilarious and have no clue what youre talking about.

XL may sell in numbers but those are skewed because they are all sold fleet to commercial companies.95% of XL on the road are commercial.

I have sold maybe 2 xls in 5+ years to retail consumers. And only even seen maybe 10 that were not fleet.

I wasnt impying the xl is a turd no, but i was stating that there is a buyer for everything.

Im quoting numbers. Not opinion. Numbers dont lie. Same depreciation. Go to site and look for yourself. I provided the link. No opinion. Just facts.

I sent link of 25+ used XL within 50 miles of me. Not one "beat up work truck" or fleet vehicle. And all holding value, even if sold under asking. No opinion. Just fact.

If no one wanted an XL, as was stated as an opinion, who is buying these new?

I am listing facts. all i get back is opinions.

Is an STX considered an XL?
It's not an XLT
And they sell like hotcakes

Now lets do math.

Went to ford.com and built 2 supercrew, 6.5 bed 5.0 4x4 FX4 with hi options selected.
One XL. One XLT. Just to get MSRP for the math.

XLT - 59,035 MSRP
XL - 50,830 MSRP

Using actual industry sales depreciation numbers:

XLT - 32% of 59,035 equals 40,143.8 value in year 6. Loss of $18,891.

XL - 39% of 50,830 equals 31,006.3
Value in year 6. Loss of $19,482.

I get @$600 doing the math with actual national sales/depreciation numbers.

Where did you pull the 5k from?

HINT: The XLT cost is @7% more than an XL. Which causes a wash with the better 7% depreciated in actual dollars.

Again. This is fact. Not opinion.

None of the XL for sale in my link were fleet. So, if no one wants them, where did these come from?

I just opened your stupid link.

EVERY SINGLE ONE of them is a dealer sale.

Not a single private sale.

These are DEF fleet vehicles...

One thing I think your analysis doesn't consider is the black plastic bumpers & steel wheels versus painted/chrome and alloy.

That in itself seems like approx 2k of value.

That being said, personally, I wouldn't be all that concerned about resale between the 2 trucks. I'd go as far as saying that you'll probably lose less on an XL than you will on an XLT, simply because you're starting at a lower point.

IMO, the secondary market for these trucks will be strong regardless. Let's say you keep it for 3 years... you've probably got 2 types of buyers. One is the small business guy who wants to beat it to within an inch of its life. The other, somebody who isn't quite in the new truck market from an affordability standpoint. The XL, especially without STX trim, will likely eliminate that second group of buyers, simply because somebody will assume that it was a beater truck.

If there are only 7k miles they prolly bought it, realized how bare bones and boring an XL is and decided to go Lariat!
