Hello!

First, big thank you to this community for offering so much detailed information in one place.

Seems like it is possible to add on most deleted items, between ordering parts and swapping them in, or after-market and even 3D printed options. This is great!

Does anyone have any thoughts on being able to continue doing this also on the 2024 models? I've read that Ford is cutting out 2,400 parts, a lot of which are different wiring harness combinations in order to pad profits, *ahem* I mean streamline production . This has me thinking whether all the connections and harnesses will be available for us to add back in deleted features?

Thanks!

Hmmm, What wiring harnesses are going to be deleted??? Is this just a rumor? Where did the "information" come from?

“In the coming months, we're going to reduce the orderable combinations on the F-150 by a magnitude that we've never seen before. Less complexity means fewer parts,” said Galothra. “From one model year to another, we're taking about 2,400 parts out of the F-150. That means many fewer parts to engineer, test and manage quality on.”

Ok, that is sorta contradictory. Does that mean you're going to be able to order less options?

Ford Blue’s president saying that the company currently has a total of 500 combinations of cable harnesses, a number that will go down to less than 20 in the next few months.

that just means they're consolidating one part so that it works in multiple vehicles.

PoolPaul89, I think you kinda exaggerated that in your original post.

2024 not even released to the public yet and everyone is getting ready for deleted features!

Good job Ford! You’ve lost your customer’s trust over some vinyl air bladders and heated steering wheels that you either couldn’t order enough of, or decided that shrinkflation in your most profitable product was the best option.

I suspect a reduced number of harnesses would mean they install the maximum harness, and only plug in components as necessary. This "should" make adding new components easier by not having to buy new harnesses. At least that seems like the sensible way to do this, but who knows what Ford is thinking.

Ranting is epidemic in the social media culture of today.
So Ford's statements to stockholders is like red meat for a rantasaurus. 😁

That pandemic thingy changed the world in many ways.
Necessity is the mother of invention, and I suspect that the interruptions in the status quo a few years ago (now) have spawned some changes that we haven't quite yet seen born out.

There's a lag between what the consumer sees available today and when the decisions behind that product was made. That lag is often 3 years and longer in the automotive world. The consumer just doesn't normally connect the two since they only experience the end result.

The F150 is a giant ship. One of the biggest currently and historically. You can scream ICEBERG AHEAD, and start turning the wheel at the helm, and wait 3 years before the product has taken the new path.

If Ford says the 2024 F150 has X-number of less parts than the current F150, and it's in fact true, the decision to reduce that number was likely YEARS before they mentioned it publicly.

About 3 years ago, it makes perfect sense what had them discussing this strategy, in my opinion. :)
