Just talking with a buddy of mine about drop shackles a few hours ago. So why Ford performance for $215 vs the less expensive options? I want to level my truck by bringing down the rear 2".

Does it affect ride quality negatively?

So they don't include a pinion shim or reduced bumpstops? Where is 215$? This doesn't look that different from the shackles I ended up getting like 7 years ago for 30$. I went with removing the flat blocks instead on the 2022.

I used MaxTrax 1-3/8 shackles on my pickup
21 SuperCab, 4x4, 5.0, 8ft box.
Before even pulling out of my driveway, I noticed that I wasn’t going downhill before I put it in gear.
A couple of weeks later, I removed the blocks.
So, a bit over 2” overall, maybe 2-1/2”
Absolutely no difference in the ride quality overall.
Does feel a bit heavier in the rear and the rear does not bounce as much on a washboard type surface.
No shims, no cutting of bed brace, almost level pickup
With my 164” wb and two piece driveshaft, no vibrations at all at any speed.

Shorter trucks and single driveshafts may get a different result.

I have only two questions. 1) Does this works with the Powerboost? I would think so. This area of the F150 is the same throughout the product line up. 2) Does it work with CCD suspension? Again, i would think so, but I wonder if a code might be triggered due to the ride height sensors?

I doubt the forward camera/sensors need recalibrating. I see little to no difference in leveling the truck by raising the front or by lowering the rear. People report that their front leveling kits didn't require recalibration.

I just used the prior gen Ford performance shackle kit on my ‘21 2wd.. M-3000-HA. Cost less money and has the same effect, 1.5” drop.

Updates per Ford
  • Grease fitting added to lower shackle tube
  • bushing grease groove improvements
  • DOM center tube tolerance improvements
Also interested if it will work with powerboost. Only concern is the routing of the power line to the rear.

Okay, let's take a look at this just a little bit closer, because this can be confusing...

Ford now offers lowering shackles for $215 retail each, totaling $430, plus shipping. MaxTrac has essentially the very same thing for $95.73 for the pair of shackles, and includes free shipping. Both the Ford product and MaxTrac product claim being made in the USA. $430.00+ vs. $95.73. I don't get it... What am I missing?

I know the easy, very quick answer is the old standby, "corporate greed", but I'm really trying not to go there. I'm going to try to maybe answer my own question here... I'm just throwing this out there, but there have been numerous articles in the financial pages reporting how disorganized Ford is, and a little more specifically, how Ford doesn't know what their costs actually are. The Lightning was cited as an example of costing issues that Ford was struggling to get their arms around. I personally know of examples where Ford's pricing makes no sense at all - such as the rear axle U-bolts used when lowering the rear of the truck by using the method of removing the leaf spring axle blocks (4x4). The shorter 2x4 bolts that are frequently used as a replacement when removing the blocks are 5 times more expensive than the longer 4x4 bolts (more material). Makes no sense at all... My speculation is that Ford's lowering shackles are just the latest example of this. But, as always, I could be wrong.

I want to use the MaxTracs due to cost. They're probably the same just as the power running boards are basically AMP Research boards. I'm too busy this summer to tackle this. This fall though. Hopefully I'll learn from others in the meantime feasibility, tips, and tricks.

I just got rid of the blocks on my ‘22 yesterday, kept the stock 4x4 u bolts, and I’m very happy with the outcome.

Took 45 min, it was free, my truck still has a marginal amount of rake (which I want) no vibes, same ride. I’ll wait with the cutoff wheel, but honestly the excess threads now under the axle are a moot thing I’ll probably forget about.

While these shackles might be a viable option for some, I’m having a hard time understanding the cost, like others. Better, cheaper options seem east to obtain.

Rear Lowering Kit - F150 2015-2020 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YLDDWV8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This is what I used and where I purchased because Prime. Others here have used the same kit as well on their 21-up F150’s as well. Search threads. Don’t fall for the hype.

BTW it took me maybe 45 minutes to install the shackles in my driveway. I did not use the shims supplied with the kit due to no vibration and pinion angle measurements were still good.

Ford's price is for two shackles, not one. So the price is $215 for a pair. Read the details in the description and it clearly indicates plural nouns so there has to be more than one in the package. Also, look at the shipping weight. 6.55 lbs for one shackle, I don't think so.

My comments were based upon the Ford Performance website:

"Retail $215.00"
"Sold in Units of Each (1)"

Ford F-150 Ford Performance 2021+ F-150 Lowering Shackles Released 1686428981717

I don't know how else to read that: 1 unit, each, costs $215.00
