Have to get windshield replaced due to a crack. Have a camera on windshield for 360 assist. If I have someone other than ford replace the glass will it cause any issues?

Yes it will. The system will need to be recalibrated after the windshield is replaced.

Thanks. I will see if I would be better off having Ford replace it then.

It 'may' need to be recal'd -- then again it may not. FWIW, the recalibration is to reset the module and then just drive in the center of the lane. Keep in mind the windshield has heating elements in it in the camera area and potentially where the wipers are. Don't let bubba's glass handle it, reputable company only. I know of more than 1 fire caused from incorrect replacements of windshields with heating elements.

SafeLite, for example, has the equipment to do the proper calibration at many of their 'fixed-base' facilities. It cannot be done as part of an at a 'your location in the field' windshield replacement.

Dealers may differ but mine told me they only use outside vendors (local glass installers) to actually install the replacement glass in the dealer's bay, then their own dealer techs do the recalibration.

FWIW, the Ford Service Manual Procedure explicitly stipulates that the Cam must be checked for calibration (which involves all the same equipment) whenever the windshield is replaced, with recalibration as required based on the results of the 'check'. IOW, effectively you need cam recalibration whenever the windshield is replaced, at least according to Ford Service specs.

The calibration requires you drive for a few mins straight 30-40 mph on a road with well marked lanes. I suggest a center lane so the lines are on either side of the truck.
You can do the ipma calibration in Forscan.
Iceman had his windshield replaced and didn’t even have to do the calibration but he did anyways and it took about a min.

it’s not too big a deal I’ve done mine several times from all the crap I’ve done to my truck I’ve nukes the ipma calibration a couple times and had to start over.

Had mine replaced and the glass team showed up at my house followed by the calibration guy. Hooked up his computer and drove the truck around the block a few times and all is good. It can be done in your driveway when you have a reputable company do it.

NO Safelite did mine -- no issues at all. They have the equipment to recalibrate the cameras. so much easier as well -- they came to me and did the work while I was at work.

Safelite CAN do this at your location -- same tech that did the glass for me, had the computer equipment to calibrate as well

Had Safelite do a replacement in their shop. The manager suggested Ford OEM glass. Felt generic glass would affect resale value a little. No Ford Logo. Who knows?
Also got a one-year recalibration guarantee. Everything worked from the get-go.

I've never encountered a dealer who didn't send windshield replacements out to a local glass specialist but going thru a dealer may be smart if you don't have a large national chain glass shop nearby so the dealer can do the calibration.

I've had safelite replace my windshield at my house and they calibrated my camera in my driveway. Never had issues.

I would strongly suggest to go with Ford OEM glass. I'ts not just about the Ford "logo" but the glass comes pre-wired with all the necessary components (including the heating element) and wire harness. Once replaced all you have to do is to plug in the ADAS camera, and the rain sensor (if you have one). I did it all by myself. I am too "anal" to let anyone touch electronics in my truck, I removed all the electronics from the old windshied, had the glass guy replace the windshied, then I replaced and connected all the electronics myself. Took me about 10 minutes. I did not need any ADAS calibration, but just in case I re-done it using official Ford's FDRS software. You can do it with ForScan as well, just as @Jesse-Infotainment mentioned above. ADAS camera is NOT part of the 360 camera system so make sure you select IPMA camera allignment, not 360 camera calibration! You will need to drive your truck on a road with well marked lanes (center lane preferably) in good lighting conditions. Operation takes about a minute! Hope this helps
