I'm currently experiencing a distinct lack of PowerBoost trucks to crawl underneath to check, or well, any trucks.

But a direct comparison would be quite helpful, and if you are correct, then that might make a tow package (unsure which one) worth it for some people.

For me, because of payload limitations, unless I either drop the 4x4 from my spec or drop family members, I wouldn't be able to safely tow beyond the standard 7k tow rating of a PowerBoost.
That's not really a Powerboost exclusive issue. Most don't pay attention to payload and just take what they get.

I'm aware. Others may not care about their safety and the safety of others on the road, but I have already calculated my tow limits against my payload limits, and whenever I have the truck, I will be making use of a truck scale prior to setting off.

That's good. I occasionally haul up to 1200 lbs in the bed short distances but don't expect to ever tow a trailer more than 5000 lbs and when that happens it would be with just one additional passenger and a few hundred pounds of gear in the bed. I would not have ordered Max Tow but it's how my truck was ordered by someone else. I suspect 95% of trucks out there don't see more than a 40lb bag of dog food.

Apparently my memory is just really bad. Finally got home this morning and payload is 1405, no where near the 890 I remember, no telling what was going through my mind.

I guess the mother in law can come along after all.

Good to know, because I was low-key worried that the payload actually could somehow be that low from the factory. If you have a mother in law, maybe she needs to take the bus instead.

I guess I'm in the minority then because every time I get a 40lb bag of dog food I also get a tub of mealworms for my daughter's lizards.

yeah me too. I picked up 35 pieces of sod this morning, a chicken biscuit from Wendys, and that along with my fat butt, onboard scales said I was almost close to maxing out payload. oh and since I have two dogs, I usually buy two 30lb bags since they eat different food. :ROFLMAO:

I've been reading a lot about the payload ratings for the PowerBoost (tech specs pdf, forum posts), and the number I see for a 4x4 with a 6.5' bed, at least at base trim, is 1,810 pounds. I'd like to have a few options on any such base truck, as quality of life improvements to drag a travel trailer around.

- 7.2kw Pro Power Onboard
- 360-degree cameras, with optional external camera mounted on trailer.
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Tow Technology Package

Could I still maintain a payload rating of 1,810 pounds with that? If not, what would likely be my actual payload with those options?

I wish Ford had an interactive payload and towing calculator on the build and price site that gave a live view as you added/removed/changed options.
I'm not going to read 7 pages but mine is a loaded 502 lariat long bed 4x4 powerboost. 1498 payload with tow package, not max tow.

I have a 2022 PB FX4 crew cab with 6.5 foot bed with sprayed liner and Lariat package (502A). Options are co-pilot active 2.0, twin panel moon roof, max towing package, bed utility package, 360 degree camera package, 20” chrome-like pvd wheels, B&O sound system, engine block heater, 3.73 rear axle, liner trays, and interior work surface. The door post sticker reads 1,380# total max weight for passengers and cargo.
By the way, the truck is still down waiting for parts (28 days so far)to repair the exhaust heat exchanger. Also, I have a loaner F-150 XLT from the dealer and it has the 3.5 ecoboost. I got a little better highway mileage on it than I did with the PB when traveling the same course. Unless a person does a lot of in-town driving, it’s not worth the additional cost in my opinion.

I have a Lariat 500a with all of that, bucket seats, a few other items except 5.5 bed and I have a payload of 1688. I do not have Max tow package.

Edit for full specs:

Thanks for the advice on the tailgate step.

Using the options guide that someone helpfully posted above, I removed the heaviest options from my configuration (the entire bed utility package, though I wish I could keep the lighting) and the twin panel moonroof.

Sticking with the guide, it looks like my chosen config will eat up 93 pounds of the base 1,810 pound payload, leaving a calculated 1,717 pound payload likely on the door sticker.

After accounting for driver and passengers weights, plus a margin for 10% of everyone's weight in misc cargo, 15% for a travel trailer tongue weight and a safety margin there, it looks like a moderately equipped truck will safely tow a loaded/wet travel trailer that weighs no more than 6,000 pounds.

A stripped XL, a 2WD truck, or lighter passengers, or a less safety-minded bear might tow more, but I don't like riding the limits.

My configuration so far: F-150 with 3.5L PowerBoost Hybrid V6, 4x4, 6.5 foot bed, Lariat 501A/mid-level (love those ventilated seats), 40/20/40 bench-like seat and column shifter, Tow Tech pkg, Assist 2.0 pkg (adaptive cruise), basic Lariat wheels, engine block heater, wheel locks, on-board scales with smart hitch, 360-degree cameras, 7.2kW Pro Power onboard, tow mirrors, fixed driver side step bar, interior work surface.

Edit: Dropped another option, further reducing payload weight.

Probably not a weight discussion, but why 501A over 500A? 2k for homelink and so-so speakers is a bit much vs aftermarket options in my opinion. the PB gets the outlets included.

Someone else informed me of the package differences, and I thought that the 501A package was required for some stuff. I changed my spec to the 500A, but judging by the 2023 order guide that just dropped today, it looks like the base packages in all trims is now gonezo, and so the minimum trim in a Lariat is now 501A.

I have no idea if the 40/20/40 seats are still an option in a 2023 Lariat. I know they're an optio on the XL and XLT trims.

I have posted my truck before, but again for OP . Note, only 2.4 gen and excludes add on options of a hard folding tonneau cover, spray in bed liner , a full set of weathertech HD floor mats and a few other less weighty options.
