KO2s on Powerboost. Not super happy with the MPG hit. Is there a happy middle ground?

I use passenger rates bfg trail terrains, they’re 3pmsf rated and better on mpg than an LT tire
I've been heavily considering that one with how light it is. I'd see some fuel economy return for sure. I'm just nervous to run it since it's not an LT tire and how much I'll be running gravel roads and trails.

I've gravitated towards the Toyo Open Countries IIIs now since they are a lighter option in an LT tire.

I have been wondering about tire replacement on my 22 PB. I have the 275 65 18 size. The stock Goodyear tires weigh in at 38lbs. All options I reviewed just for the SL rating were 42-45 lbs, and going to an E rating gets well over 52lbs.
I have a CMax Energi and learned the hard way about tire weight and MPG. Regular trips to the same spot in Utah was usually netting 42-44 MPG. Costco talked me into a “better” Michelin tire (Primarcy Tour vs the stock Energy) and my mileage dropped to around 36-37. Still had the flat tire issues because of a heavy car and light weight tires.
From what I can tell, the Territory is a F150 specific tire.
I only have 1500 miles so I have some time to review options and see what the forum members come up with for replacements. Just my 2 cents., but the MPG is important to me.
The stock tires on my PB are 275/65R18 Michelin Primacy XC. They are supposed to be A/T, but are M/S in reality. They are 38# each.

I had issues with k02 on my 4x4 sprinter van, noisy and horrible mpg, I switched to falken wildpeak at3w and noticed improvements, only negative was no rock ejectors and sidewall color fade at altitude at was happy with k02 on my 06 f150 3.5 but cannot remember mph 16 or so.
I am getting 20 22mpg hwy premium on my stock tires 01 tt plat.

Have you tried the BFG Trail Terrain T/A. It's slightly less aggressive than the Ko2 but should still meet your needs. A lot of people have been putting these on their Lightenings.

I've been really considering them. I'm a little nervous since they are not an LT tire and I'll be doing a lot of gravel/off-road. Maybe I shouldn't worry. But I'm leaning towards the Toyo's right now since they are a lighter LT option.

I have a 22 Platinum Powerboost with CCD. Installed Nitto Recon Grapplers 275/65/20s (34”) because they were the largest tire I could get that is 4ply. LOVE THEM. I installed them on the truck at 80miles so don’t really know my mpg with OEM tires. I can tell you that the last 2 tanks I’ve averaged 25mpg. Because I haven’t adjusted Speedo it’s really like 25.8mpg.

I had a 17 F150 Platinum with Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Biggest you can go with those and still be P-metric is 33”. Loved those too. The Recons are more quite that Ridge and the 1” larger size is only 1 pound heavier at 48 or 49 lbs per tire.

I’ve had many vehicles with the KO2s. Excellent tire! Only issue is weight which hits your mpg hard and balance was the other issue. They wear like iron if you rotate AND balance every 5k miles. I’ll post pics below of my old and new F150s

The 2017 and the 3.5 EB and was the first year of 10 spd tranny. For the life of the vehicle (sold with 67k miles) I was at 19.8mpg

I just ordered a 2023 4x4 PB Platinum with CCD. How do you like it? My truck will be more of a road warrior so chose it over the FX4.

For anyone who cares. I've decided to go back down to stock size but in a lighter Toyo Open Country A/T III, still 10 ply. Will shed some weight/size but still have a really strong/capable tire for off roading. Seems like a good balance for my needs, fuel economy, and 3 peak rating.

I have a 22 F150 Powerboost. From what I could tell, the stock setup is 83.1 lbs. I decided on Fuel Shok wheels, 18x9, 20mm offset (29.05 lbs) and KO2s in 265/70R18 (55.3 lbs) for a final weight of 84.35 lbs. The 1 1/4 lbs difference so far seems to have dropped my MPG from about 22-24 to 20-22ish. I believe the rolling resistance difference at start/stop is the biggest culprit in MPG loss for me, as I can still achieve 24 MPG on hour-long highway/backroad rides with few stops, vs 20 in town with lots of hills and stops.

I upsized to 275/65/20 Toyo at3’s and only lost .3 mpg’s. It’s always interesting to see the different results people get. I’m sure it’s mostly driving behavior though and I take it easy when I drive. These are noisy though so I’m hoping they perform well enough this winter for me to want to keep them.

KO2's are a stickier compound to maximize off road capability. This means lower MPG's and tire life. Will be interested to hear back how the Toyo Open Country A/T III change things.

Love it! It’s quieter than my 17’ (which is incredible) and smoother. Really happy with the CCD so far. I’m searching for a way to level that doesn’t affect the scales/CCD, bluecruise and headlights. One thing this has that I was unaware of prior to receiving the truck is the headlights that rotate with steering.…nice surprise. Fuel mileage is pretty incredible.
