I have a 24 x30 detached garage and it is just right for my Crew cab, 6.5 bed F150. It allows me to have stuff up against the wall and still have plenty of room for the truck. My wish would have been for a wider garage, just not possible due to septic leach field restrictions .

Looking for some serious answers here, not joking. We are in the process of designing our new house thus trying to decide what will best fit an 2022 F150 xlt crew cab with 6.5 bed. Probably will be doing a 3 bay garage with 2 doors one 9' other 16'. The single bay will not be on the same plane as the 16' in order to break things up and will house the f150. Right now thinking 12x25 foot area.

All input and photos are welcome and what you wish was different about yours!

Thanks
My only advise is, whatever you come up with eventually - do it bigger. Like wiring a new house. If you think it's enough, do more.

Watching!
...and drooling.

it sounds like by different planes you meant the front of the house and we were all thinking the garage floor would be at different levels?

Is the reason for the drain for water or oil changes? Either way, skip the drain. For water just make sure the pad is poured at the correct slope for water drainage and epoxy (or polycuramine IMO) the floor for ease of keeping it clean. I work at a place with heavy equipment shops and anytime we remodel a shop we get rid of floor drains now, both the oil and water ones. They get clogged with gunk and need to be regularly maintained and they also require a depression where the drain is which makes rearranging things and moving rolling carts difficult. New floors get poured level and are polished and get wiped mopped down daily.

Snakebitten has a lift in his outbuilding, and to me, a "dream garage" is pretty much defined by 1)a lift and 2) AC/Heat.

NOW i need more room as the car parking has been taken over by a lounge area for me and the dog. plus all the tools. and a mezzanine ( loft )
hindsight.....40 x 100 and i think i would be ok

That is one thing I would like! Have not decided on ceiling height. Which since attached will probably depend on height of the house rooms Have not decided if living space will be above garage as well and if so it will need to match that of the house.

Regardless we are deciding between 9 and 10 feet, for the first floor. Since we are going for 2 stories we are limited to a 35’ house height. Garages usually sit one step down from the house here. So that gives 7” extra . The lot also slopes left to right. The two furthest corners; front right to rear left, have a 12’ difference that eats into the 35’ overall. The city takes lowest to highest point.

if I did a lift it probably be a 4 post storage lift. Which does leads to another question. I have to go back and read the code, but we follow the IRC which I think says the garage floor must be pitched to the opening. Which presents some challenges when installing on a slanted floor.

I have looked at lifts but not the installation instructions.

My attached 3 car garage is 24' for the 2 and 20 for the 3rd. 24' or 25' in the OP's case, isn't enough for sure in a detached garage. If there was room I'd want a garage big enough to store a motorcoach (44') or 30+ ft trailered boat.

I recently completed a 24'x24' pole barn. I would love to have been able to go bigger but township regulations for storm water management limited my size. I had the floor epoxy coated. Im going to insulate and sheet rock the inside.

Looks very evenly lit with good lighting in the top photo.

excellent
when we built ours
the first layer was prodex r19 foil wrapped foam about 1/8 " thick
it stayed really comfortable
so we added more batts in ceiling to bring r value up to r35.
then during snow meggadon we were still keeping easy enough 70F inside and 12F outside
so we added r13 in walls to give more comfort. put up battens and covered it with the foam board that goes under siding, next plan is to sheath inside walls in plywood .
but this past week i spent hours hanging from ladders etc putting new foil over the batts to help stop dust and hold the batts better

just went out and shot roof with thermal gun. its 101F ambient, roof temp was 114.6F
inside the ceiling temps is 66.9
and ac is reading 73 air intake temps.
i still have about 12 feet of rear wall to wrap up and then i think we will be good
the apartment behind the bus barn is all 6 " foamed walls. its cave like in constant temps
i say this as you can never have enough insulation and cool insides
large doors are special built to be r19 min and they are facing west...skin temps pass 130 and inside gets to 71F or less.
i also have a big roof fan that has a cover that drops down to refresh air on nice days...its heavliy insulated and is the coolest place on the ceiling ?????

now i am runnign around shooting the walls and everything looking for heat leaks, i found one in a corner beam that conencts to apartment, its a boxed in beam and not sure how to get at it to foam the guts
