Looks like! The other side is a logging operation and it’s lucky that it’s just cars and nothing flammable.

A 100+ year old bridge was heavily damaged a few years ago when a wheel bearing failed and caught the train cargo on fire as well as a partial derailment; all in the middle of a city park.

I don’t think it’s anything to do with sabotage and more to do with the private operators skipping maintenance as well as infrastructure issues. Tons of money is spent to subsidize air travel; while the rail network is largely ignored and just like mining companies; the rail companies have found ways to shirk their financial responsibility when shit goes wrong.

There is a rail bridge about 10 minutes from my house with “1909” stamped in the concrete/stone. There are cracks about an inch wide in the base, and the steel columns in the middle are rotted completely gone and I can stick my fingers through it with no effort. Trains use it every day.

Train derailments aren’t uncommon at all. Most of them happen in the yards and receive no media coverage. Mainline derailments do happen and every one has received intense scrutiny since the East Palestine, OH derailment.
EDIT TO ADD: my sympathy to anyone who may have had a vehicle on this particular train.

OMG! I just bought my 2023 F150 last evening after waiting since I placed my order in January. It would break my heart to have my long awaited truck totaled on its way to the dealer!
