I have both an F150 3.5 (wife’s vehicle) and a F250 6.7.
The F250 uses less fuel and has a 3000 payload. I get 20 mpg in the city and 13 towing with the diesel. The F150 gets 15 in the city and 7-8 towing. I use premium fuel in the 150 when towing per the manual. We tow a 28’ Airstream with 7600 GVWR.
The F250 has a bit firmer ride, but is comfortable.
I put the S&B fuel tank in the 250 and that gives me over a 1000 mile range.
1k mile range is killer
best i got on stock tank was just tad over 700 miles, which for me is great, i hate stopping for fuel
in the 250 up 1st the 150 second and it has a larger tank than the super duty i am pleased at both being able to run that far and not stop for gas or fuel.. i can make it from myhouse to buccess near mobile alabama with no fuel stops

That is surprisingly light for a 34' TT, however, you'll likely have room for a couple hundred pounds of cargo and still be at or near payload. I would be nervous pulling that much surface area and as a newbie trying to maneuver it lol.

What? Are you auditioning for another Cannonball Run movie? The wife and the dogs and I will get there when we get there. I love not having to stop at gas stations though. When the puppies need to walk around a bit, ;) we can stop at interesting places that also have restrooms because my PB can run 600+ miles before it needs attention.

Your requirements are easily met with a F-150 truck. The real load limitation is the factory tires, with the ones on my 2022 F-150 rated at 2679@35 PSI. These are passenger tires that provide a very smooth ride.

My 2500 class diesel pickup was modified with additional leaf springs and adjustable Rancho shocks and new tires rated at 3750@80 PSI. The higher load capacity tires made for a rougher ride and I needed to use my own air compressor to get them to 80 PSI. I towed a 14,000 lb trailer load and often had a 3700 lb slide-in camper in the bed. Very different situation than yours.

By the way, the Chevy 2500 truck had a AAM axle (as do the trucks of other manufacturers) that was rated for 11,000 lbs and so the payload limitation of the truck when it left the factory was the tires and the leaf springs, both of which were easy to upgrade.

My Long bed, super crew, XLT Powerboost FX4 with Max Tow rides better than any vehicle I have been in for years short of my dad’s 70s luxury cars. My old ‘99 Diesel Ram rides like a truck and bumps about knock your teeth out. I absolutely love the acceleration and quiet power of the Powerboost.

That being said I am regularly pushing the limits of its bed capacity, though it handles it fine, and am flirting with the idea of an F250 diesel. Weekly I make a 120 mile highway trip hauling the wife and boys with me, so 700lbs, in the cab and in the bed another 800-1200 pounds of cargo. My max load is 1,545, so I am at or over it a few hundred pounds regularly. Additionally, 3-4 times a year I pull a 17,000 pound trailer with my old Dodge.

Moving to a 250 gives me a couple of concerns, first is the acceleration, is the power stoke acceleration on par with the Powerboost? Secondly is ride quality.

I don't think I understand payload very well at all. I have a short bed, super crew XLT powerboost Sport with Max Tow and my payload is slightly higher. I can't see how a short bed could have higher payload than a long bed so clearly I'm missing something!

F250 will not accelerate faster than a PB unless the PB is stuck in the mud. And, like others have said, PB ride quality is truly something else. Frankly the only vehicle I've ever owned that had better ride quality was my 2015 Flex Limited.

This has been interesting to see all the viewpoints and thoughts. Since I haven’t noticed any issues and I have upgraded to truck tires, I think I will get another F-150. I have been wanting Bluecruise and didn’t realize the 250s don't offer it. I was also a little shocked at how pricey the HO diesels are. When I bought my Dodge the Cummins added $5k, but the HO 6.7 seems to add over $12k. I like to trade the trucks when they hit 48k miles, so hopefully a little overloading won’t give me any problems.

I have heard the Godzilla had some issues even at 30k miles from faulty cam rollers falling apart. I am definitely going to test drive a 250 or 350.

Next time you're making your run, fill up and take a ride over the scales to see where things are. Your front axle is rated at 4050lbs, and your rear is 4150lbs, while GVWR is 7350lbs. I'd guess you're around 3600f/3750r if the payload is as stated. At a minimum I typically have ~80lbs worth of stuff that stays in the truck between small tool set, extinguisher, recovery gear, tow balls, etc...

I've done several add-ons to my truck and it's about time to go baseline it again. Curious just how much a little here and a little there has added up.

About a month ago I traded in my 2021 F150 KR. Really liked the truck and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Decided on moving up to a 2022 F250 Platinum with 6.7 diesel as prepping for long trip. My needs were the same as with the F150 only the results are dramatic. With trailer, Jeep, gear, people I was pushing 11,000lbs - near the limit of the F150 and it did OK. But, if you need to tow, haul, particularly in the mountains, there simply is no comparison as the F250 was meant for it. 1000 ft lbs torque, air brake, 20,000 tow capacity... and it got 17 mpg loaded while extremely comfortable. On a subsequent trip to TX empty going 87 it got 19.5 mpg.

Just read the post comments so decided to comment here. Am still a fan of the F150, and for 1/2 ton it is fast, capable and comfortable. But don't compare the F250 to it, it has different purpose and why Ford makes all varieties. Get the truck that fits the purpose and not try to make it do things not designed for.
