F150 fold down shifter issues resolved?

There have been a handful of issues with the shifter. I'm not sure what is expected to be fixed as most people haven't had any problem. Given how many F-150s there are with console shifters, if there were actually a problem, it wouldn't be just a few people posting about it.

thanks for your take- do you have a fold down shifter? If so, have you experienced any problems?

I have not had any issues with my fold down shifter but don't fold it that much as I don't have the work surface I wish I did

What problem is there with the fold down shifter?

I started the original thread when I saw a guy on YouTube doing a first month of owning the 2021 model review and he talked about his shifter folding down when it shouldn’t and something weird with the shifting.
Another guy on here said his shifter broke in half although I think that one would be a more rare occurrence.
I switched from the sport model to XLT because my main concern is that maybe one day it wouldn’t come back up from being folded down or the mechanism that holds it upright would malfunctioning causing it to go limp on you while trying to shift.

I've folded mine down at least once a month, some months it was at least once a week, and I've had it since July. No issues so far. There may have been a small batch with issues, but as I said, pretty sure it isn't widespread.

That is great to know- I am going to buy a 2022 F150 Lariat with work station and saw the video you referred to. Made me nervous. So needed some feedback from other members in the forum.

I have it, but wish I had the column shifter. I haven't had any issues with it and I only stow it once a month maybe. However, it makes the most awful sound like a loud grinding dying motor. Smooth and elegant it is not. I am glad I have the 8yr/100k premium care with $0 deductible.

I too have the fold down shifter and have had it fold down less than 10 times. No issue for me so far. I also have the fold down workstation and so far no trouble with that but haven't used it much either.

The storage tray/bin with the metal/plastic cover that is spring loaded though no longer stays back. Like the spring has sprung so it never stays locked into place, I didn't really expect it to work forever but something I will be adding to my list of repairs to have done.

I've had no issue with my fold down shifter, but coming from a 2018 KingRanch, I can tell you that the mechanism feeeeel is very different between the two.
I never felt like I needed to be patient and deliberate with the 2018 because it didn't give off that feeling of being plastic and fragile. This new truck is just as beautiful and the fit and finish on the shifter is great. But it definitely feels like I shouldn't be ham fisted with it.
