I just had my radar detector & dash cam hardwired at a stereo shop. They wired to the BCM and ran the wire up the A pillar. Very clean install.

That is what I did with the 2015 FX4 and wondering if I have to do the same thing with the 2021? Wish I could tap into the power above the mirror somewhere!

Nice!

What do you mean "BCM"? Do you mean the fuse panel below the glove box?

Nice!

you can actually tap the mirror connector itself with a mirror tap. You can find them at Blendmount.com.

Did they use an add a circuit fuse like this and if so what size? Micro, Mini or Regular?

No fuse, it just taps into the back of the mirror connector.

Does anyone know if the 12V at the mirror is always on or only with ignition?

You can get either of these from: https://www.dongartechnologies.com/

Both plug into the back of the mirror so you don't have to run wires.
You really only need the pig tail. They tap into the molex connector in back of the mirror. I forget the color codes, but it takes less than 5 mins. Just have to buy the correct adapter for your camera with the taps. The one here is the same one I use for my camera. I did this in my '19 Ranger, my wife's '19 Stang and my new '21 F150 Platinum Hybrid. There is no need to over think this. It also comes in different lengths so if you have a dash cam that you can turn to the driver side window to record an officer lets say, you'll need that lil extra length.

Until this thread, this was always an idea that was something I'm curious about, thanks for all the wisdom on it here. Can anyone also point me in the right direction to find a setup that can be turned in diff directions but would also be on the smaller size? Speaking about specific camera systems. I really don't want some humongous ugly arrangement that eats up 10% of my view.... Thx
