I used a similar technique on my old 2000 Mercury Gran Marquis. The owners manual for that car instructed me to make three slow circles, wait 5 minutes, restart the car, then drive three figure 8s. I only had to do it once, and it fixed it for the remainder of the time I owned that car.

Just checked mine yesterday at 1400 miles. Still full, still clean! Still happy, still no regrets.

I was curious since I'd not tried this yet, so I just went out and tested it.....successfully. I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but I paused just long enough for the doors to unlock before I hit the 5-6 to open the tailgate.

My points showed up by the time I drove my truck home from the dealership on day one.

Almost 1500 miles, zero issues, except I don't get to drive it as often as I'd like.
