Hey all. Put an order in for the 2022 tremor, 402a antimatter blue. Wow what an awesome truck. I am having a mental breakdown over this panoramic moon roof. The dealers around me only have trucks with it. I have only had 2 door trucks in the past so a giant moonroof wasn’t terribly thought about for me. My wife has a 2016 explorer with the pano roof. I like it for the light. We rarely open it for ventilation.

What is everyone’s thoughts on this? I have read a million posts and it seems 50/50.

1. Is the extra light by opening the sunshade necessary/ worth it in a 4 door truck?
2. If I only plan to use it as a giant window, is it still at risk of the failures I read?
3. I keep my vehicles forever. I will keep this >10 years. Part of me wants the extra light but part of me is worried even a little water in the cab could spell disaster with all the electronics. I’m these new trucks.
Thanks!

I went back and forth on mine. In the end I put it on my order. I'll get the extended warranty anyways and I figured YOLO. IT does let in a ton of light though. Makes the cab seem even bigger than it is.

Full discolusre...I've never had one before but I love this one so far. Only had it about three weeks.

Had one in our 2013 Explorer. Never a problem and used it quite often. Rarely closed the shade. Liked the incoming light. Had the small, old version in my old Super Duty. Currently, have the pano in my 2020 Super Duty. Get a tube of Krytox GPL-205 and lubricate the sealing surfaces. Also, raise it to vent, close it, and then open the moonroof when you open it. These items are said to help prevent failures. Extended warranty will cover any problems, if you have them, and anything else on the truck. Extended warranties through Floor Ford or Ziegler...for the best price.

I have the Pano roof on my Lariat. Have a Pano roof on both of the Mini Coopers, never had any issues with any of them so far. I do live in Minnesota, so they see the extremes of weather, from -40F to +100F, so I have a fair amount of confidence in how auto manufacturers are installing them, and the quality of parts they are using, definitely not like the moon roofs of old.

The only cautionary thoughts I had on your inquiry are:
1. You mentioned it is a Tremor, if you are actually going to be doing a bunch of off-roading, that added body twist, stress, may effect the life of the pano roof seals.

2. I've read people who are taller than 6ft can run into head clearance space, since the sun shade portion of the roof, takes away 1-2 inches of the interior space. So if you're taller, you may want to consider not having it.

Regarding OP question about light in the cab - I have the pano roof and really enjoy the extra light, especially in winter. Here in Connecticut, I only close the shade in summertime at midday or when the glare is bothering me or my passenger. Otherwise it's always open. If you do get it, I strongly suggest the sliding rear window (I don't know if that's already included on Tremor XLT). Great airflow.

I have a 2007 Lincoln Mark LT pickup with the moonroof I bought new. Not nearly as big, but I have loved mine. I use it constantly open all the way and vented, especially with the rear window open. Very nice indirect air movement that way. I started having issues about a year ago with water filling up in the passenger side door sill. I've tried to fix it but still haven't figured it out. Even with that, I ordered my new King Ranch with the moonroof. I love it.

I have had retractable moon roof in several cars in the past and did not really use them. But since the F150 had a sliding window/hatch in the rear, I didn't need a pano-roof. My extra ventilation easily comes from that.

to your points:

1. I am not sure the extra light is necessary but definitely a plus and does make the cab feel bigger. If you have kids, they will love it. Interestingly enough, it’s my first truck with one and when I close the shade it feels too dark, it might just me being Bougee now though ?
2 and 3. There is a risk of failure for sure, but with massed produced vehicles anything can be. Heck from OTA updates to drivetrain issues has been reported already. It just all depends. One thing I’ve seen people post is that the roof seal drain was clogged up and caused a leak… but man sometimes it’s just the luck of the draw.

IF you decide to get it, I’d recommend putting a ceramic window tint so it don’t burn your skillet. I paid $140 solely for moonroof but I keep it open year around in high heat areas and it’s not a problem.

I got the moonroof because the wife wanted it. When it’s just me in the truck I typically have it closed, there is a reason why I have legal limit tint, I don’t like feeling like I’m in a fish bowl. When I’m with my wife we have it open because I know she enjoys the extra sun. It’s definitely a talking point with passengers in the truck. I’m not worried about leaking, I’ve got bumper to bumper warranty until 140k miles, but the additional payload hit wasn’t expected.

I can say that the truck feels soooo open and spacious with the moonroof. Rolled all the way back I'm a big fan of the openness. It was an important option for me. I can see how someone might be okay without it, but it was necessary in my case.

I just can’t believe this is the hardest decision about the truck. I don’t see many long term reviews. I see a lot of “had it for a few months or a year or 4000 miles, and works great.” I keep my vehicles until they don’t work anymore. I don’t mind fixing a broken track or a part once in a great while, I just don’t want to see water on the floor boards. I wonder if just cleaning the drains with trimmer line a couple times per year would be enough insurance.

One of the experiences I have that is long term and with the pano roof was on the 2013 Explorer we had (just sold it and picking up a 2022 F150 Lariat on Saturday) was bought in June 2014. Used it often and never a problem. I realize that this is not on an F150 like you are buying. Similar panel as the F150.
Cleaning won't hurt at all. Use Krytox a few times a year to keep it from being 'seized' and breaking the tracks. Also, open as a vent to break the seal before opening it as the pano.
