Shifter replacement DIY?

So my 88k km PB gave me the shifter death growl the other day when raising from folded position. Today, when trying to go from park to drive, it growled again. Part is 320$ cad. Anyone replace it on their own yet? Does the computer need reprogramming to see the new shifter if I replace it myself? Stealer wants 2 hours labour to do it. Thanks all!

The thought crossed my mind… but resale would likely be impacted. If I get 90k out a shifter, and it’s easy to replace… not too bad. Not right, but not insane either.

That could be.. shouldn't be, but could be. I personally wanted a column shifter with my lariat PB so that the work surface could be deployed while driving, and also gain that bit of extra storage:

@PowerboostedF150 I just replaced my shifter in my 2021 XLT this past weekend. It’s really simple. I also have a my old shifter if you’re interested in it!

I wanted this setup so bad that I skipped the sport package and am living with chrome. No regrets. I say do the conversion!

Not sure, but I belive it was stated in another thread that if your truck was originally equipped with console shift, a mounting location for column shift would be missing. I changed from column to console and that was relatively easy!
