Hi All -

Was wondering if anyone else has issues with bluetooth phone call quality when carplay is connected wirelessly.

Chief complaint has been I sound "far away" and its hard to hear me from the other line. The audio on my end is fine at low volume but is poor if I turn the volume up.

Thanks in advance -

This used to happen a lot in Sync 3.4 and iOS 15. Almost like the phone was using the built in mic instead handing off to the Truck's mic. Haven't had this issue with Sync4 and iOS 15.7 now 16, but I use corded carplay.

Try removing the truck from Bluetooth and Carplay settings on the phone then re-link it and see if it gets better. If not do a master reset to Sync and set everything back up along with clearing the phone link settings. You can try turning off wireless app projection too and see if that helps.

I don't have this issue at all and I'm on wireless carplay calls for 30-60 per call.

It would happen to me at random times on Sync3. One call would be normal, but the next would be like OP described. Hang up, or reconnect Carplay and call back and everything would be fine.

Most of the time deleting the truck from Carplay and reconnecting it fixed it on Sync3.

It's IOS 16. They're working on a fix.

There are several remaining iOS 16 bugs that iOS 16.0.3 would hopefully address, including an issue with low volume during CarPlay phone calls placed with an iPhone 14 Pro, display flickering on some iPhone models when brightness is set low, a string of text that can crash the Mail app, an error when attempting to edit Cinematic Mode videos shot on an iPhone in Final Cut Pro and iMovie on the Mac, and more.

Nice.

I'm on 16.0.2 with a 13 pm and have not had the issue so far.

I'm on a 14 pro, could be the issue - hopefully its resolved. I'll try the other recommended fixes in the interim - thanks all.

I’m trying to diagnose an annoying CarPlay issue, not sure if it’s related to those in this post - audio breaks up / cracks. Audio is either the Apple music apple, podcast app and I think even driving directions VO. Audio quality is good otherwise, it’s not a constant issue so it’s not bad enough to not listen to music at all. Don’t use the phone often in the car, but not sure it affects phone call quality.

Phone is plugged into the USB-C jack. I wiggle the jack and phone and don’t notice that it’s happening when the car is on bumpy roads, so I don’t think it’s the physical connection. My first suspicion is it’s Bluetooth related - I’m a little confused by the interface as to whether if I’ve ever connected to Bluetooth CarPlay, if that’s now the default, even if plugged in. I’ll look in the interface to turn off wireless. I don’t see any lag or breaking up in the animations or display aspects of CarPlay. It has never randomly disconnected. Have to test more, but one theory is it’s when listening to music and switched to another app (Waze) that’s when it breaks up. iPhone 12, I think the issue existed before ios16.

I've experienced audio issues with my 14P in both my F-150 via wireless carplay and wired in my Porsche. I firmly believe it is an apple issue - hopefully fixed in an Apple updated soon.

Anyone had an issue with their iphone not seeing the truck bluetooth at all? Mine worked great until recently and now can't get it to connect at all. Wired car play is fine. I tried another phone and got the same issue. I have turned bluetooth off/on on truck and phone and reset sync.

Looks like this just got released from Apple:

"

According to Apple's release notes, the iOS 16.0.3 update addresses a number of bugs that iPhone users have run into over the course of the last few weeks.

This update provides bug fixes and important security updates for your iPhone including the following:
- Incoming call and app notifications may be delayed or not delivered on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
- Low microphone volume can occur during CarPlay phone calls on iPhone 14 models
- Camera may be slow to launch or switch between modes on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
"

Once I get the update installed probably tonight, I will report back.

Hello there! Can you send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer? I would like to look into your Carplay issues on my end.

I updated my iOS and I will test later (according to the notes this only affected iphone 14 but who knows).

Good luck with the new iOS, look forward to hearing if the fix has desired effect.

Very happy with sync 4 with my ancient 12 PM on its equally crusty iOS 14.8.
