Your spare is not a doughnut but may be a slightly smaller tire. If that's the real concern just get a spare that matches your other four. I'm not an offroader...are punctures that would be prevented by an LT tire reallybthat common?
Solid LT off road tires will definitely get you out of a bind, operate at lower pressure, reduce punctures, etc. At least that's what the tire marketing people say 😃 .

It may also be an extra insurance policy because the costs of a mistake off road can be quite high.

Is it possible that with the larger wheel that the total weight of the tire and wheel could be similar between the 18" and the 20"? Do they have the same gearing options (ie 3.31, etc)?
I don't know any of that in any detail.

My stock 20-inch wheels/tires are not light. Each weighs about 80 pounds. They are 275/60R20, a 33 inch tire. Stock 18's will have a 32 inch tire.

There is no free lunch. If all that is true then it may be worth the lower mpg and slightly slower acceleration.

Agree, I want the ACC to continue to behave and no gear hunting. Which sounds like in your experience a 10 lbs increase is reasonable to reduce the likelihood of this being a problem.

While I have limited experience offroading, I can tell you that if you regularly visit scrap yards, LT tires will fare infinitely better than passenger tires

reset your shift tables after putting on the larger tires. that’s something almost everyone overlooks when it comes to this kind of of stuff.
Does this apply to Only larger diameter tires or does this also apply to heavier tires in the OEM size?

I should also note that from my past experience upsizing tires (+2" OD) with a 2.7L 4 cyl Toyota Tacoma, A ~50% increase in tire weight (23 lb to 34 lb.) caused problems Including gear hunting and Cruise control issues. I would like to avoid that mistake here.

larger diameter tire will throw off your speedometer which in terms shall affect the transmission’s shift points. heavier tires will have the similar effect since the truck’s transmission will learn your driving habits when you had brought it home the first day. i hope that makes sense?

Will disconnecting the battery for a period of time reset the system so it can begin learning with the new tires installed?

Ehhhhh.....mine does not have any gear hunting issues and drives perfectly fine. I went from the stock 20" BAP wheels with 275-60-20 Hankooks that were 80lb/corner to my 18x9 Methods with 33x12.50x18 Kenda RTs which are 90lb/corner.

Truck has done a best 0-60mph of 5.65s and [email protected] verified on pump 91 so not quite the negative effect. I expect to lose some MPG. I haven't quite calculated that yet.

2021 XLT Screw 5.0,4x4,302Asport,
10% in weight increase is noticeable behind the wheel. 10% increase in Overall diameter is noticeable in braking and acceleration.

Up to 10%, I'm ok. Anything more than 10% IMHO means its time to regear.

I lost low end, you could tell. Added a Pedal Commander, and enjoy the look over the downfalls.

You will for sure feel the unsprung weight increase at each corner. Not so much with acceleration (a little if you have a sensitive butt dyno), probably 0.2-0.3 off for 0-60 time, but definitely when cornering/braking and tossing the truck around if that's your driving style. It's also going to ride a LOT more truck like with LT tires.
