I wonder if some of these "prepare for future updates" are related to the digital signatures of the software. Given the modules have disparate manufacturers who also provide their respective software, it's somewhat likely that the certificate chain of trust needs to be updated semi-frequently to ensure future updates can be delivered/applied when they are available. At least, I would hope they are verifying the digital certificates on the software as part of the OTAs.
I can tell you in our trucks, it is the GWM module's job to verify contents in update packages and sign off on them. I have seen updates fail due to software mismatches and checksum errors. From what I have learned here, your logic seems sound as far as what these preparatory updates are for.

I have the recalls, but no CSP.

And maybe this isn't new, but ProPower is completely different than previously. It even has a Lightning as the source.
It used to be two round gauges mirroring the gauges in Sync4.
It appears to be bar graphs now

I've cleared my cache, Uninstalled and reinstalled Fordpass 4.30.0 to no avail. Fordpass now only shows customer "CSP''s and not "recalls".

The last thing I'd want is my truck to shut down due to a TLS root certificate expiring... :D

Certificate rotations and expiry have bitten many a dev and sys admin in the butt before.

My truck has remote release only, not power up and down. Power up/down trucks can be fixed with software only as they have 4 wires to the tailgate. The official Ford fix for this is to run additional wiring from the BCM to the back of the truck which includes drilling holes in the body to rout the wiring alongside of the main harness. According to Jesse it's a big mess. Since I've never had in issue there's no way I'm going to let the dealer butcher my truck like this.

that does not seem like a worthwhile fix
my super duty had electric open tailgate and some of them POPPED going down the road.
fix was to tighten adjustment pin to hold more tension on latch..vice ford doing something

i wonder if engineers at the home office ever actually look at a truck in the wild

@Kanuck 4.30.1 was just released, sadly what ever it does, it doesn't repair the recall / csp issue in Fordpass

WE WAIT AGAIN!

As quickly as Ford released 40.30.1, they must have immediately found an "uhoh" with 40.30.0

Might not have been a gotcha with the ICE F150's at all though?

Nothing like an extra 0 to change things dramatically.

I've never had a "recall" button, but all outstanding recalls were fixed before purchasing in April. Only had the CSP button for the tailgate thing that I hope is never a real issue for me. 10 years of coverage Ford is very confident on it being a very rare occurrence.

I can see the new recall for rear axle wiring on Ford website, but no recall button in FordPass app. I assume at some point it will show a message about having a recall on there? 🤔

Where are you guys finding the FordPass version?

BTW, something must have updated re PPOB. Before, all I had was more or less a tutorial on FordPass. Now, I DO have the 2 gauges (both, correctly showing it as off).

Edit: Found the version. 4.25.0
