I usually back into a parking spot (easier) and park away from other vehicles (door dings). Twice now, I backed up against shrubs and I guess I got to close. The truck stopped abruptly; I thought I hit the curb. I rely on the camera and reverse sensors as I backup, I was close but not that close. Expecting to see scratches on the tailgate, there are none.

Thoughts?

I’d say yes it automatically braked. Especially if you have that feature turned on in the 12 inch screen UI.

I back out of my driveway sometimes. There is always a car parked on the other side of the street or trash cans. I usually get the beeping but that’s it.

Only once, I backed up like normal and maybe it was the speed of backing up, that the sensors caught the trash cans like normal but also the truck automatically braked. I was away from the trash cans but that was really cool to see the feature in play.

It stops you as if you backed into something solid, like a concrete post. Scared the crap out of me couple times. I disabled that feature in my screen some place.

It depends on the speed at which you are backing up and the amount of pressure you have on the brake petal. The truck will also but on the park brake if you put it into park without "ENOUGH" pressure on the brakes as well.

Thanks for the replies. Pretty cool IMO; glad it's not broken.

I would not be happy if I scratched the tailgate in my haste.

I guess the truck is teaching me to slow down when backing

I hate the back up assist feature. Heaven forbid a shrub move or a car go by, my truck brake checks me too!

I had this feature scare the living daylights out of me backing up on a National Forest road in the fall. I was using a steep road stub to turn around nose high and I guess the system saw the ground coming at it and slammed the brakes. I thought I hit a log or something. I wouldn’t have hit the ground, so I was kind of surprised it fired off, but it’s something I keep in mind to turn off now when I’m off paved surfaces.

It saved my butt one morning after I parked my boat in the driveway back-up area the day before. I opened the garage door, backed out forgetting the boat was back there and it stopped me short of hitting my boat! I actually thought I did hit it based on the sudden stop. Then I realized there wasn't a mark on the truck or the boat trailer. I'm never turning that feature off!

I have to backup about a 100 yards when I'm leaving the tiny house.

This feature now requires me to keep mother nature pruned much better than in the past. :)

I keep a pair of hedge clippers in the SideXside these days so that when I check the mail or fetch from the delivery box up front, I now am viewing my road from a pruning point of view.

Yes, the trucks have it depending on options. I think.

I disabled mine, but it reactivated at some point and had to disable again.

I use a hitch mount bike rack that folds up -kuat nv 2.0- and the truck kept auto braking thinking there was something in the way.
