120 volts, 20 amps = 400 watts?

What am I missing? I was just cleaning up cabin with home vacuum and cabin outlets kept tripping. Ran extension from bed with propower no problem. I don't understand how cabin outlet is stamped 20 amps but only supplies 400 watts. Thanks!

The receptacle is rated at the 20A but the inverter maximum output current is 3.5A which gives approx 400W.

If the truck isn’t in generator mode, that’s all you will get. If I remember, the screen indicates to turn on generator if the load exceeds the 400 watts.

I’ve pulled well over 400 watts from it, vacuum cleaners will often trip arc fault breakers.

Thanks. I'll have to put my KillaWatt on it and test just out of curiosity. As I said, when I ran extension from bed outlet, there was no problem.

FWIW , I assume your truck screen looks similar to this in generator mode. Only 2.4 inverter on my truck though.

You only require generator mode if plug In more than 400 watts or so. Simple phone charges etc. will run off the truck battery . Plug in a coffee pot , generator mode is called for. The truck will let you know if the generator is required.

I stand corrected! In generator mode you absolutely can pull more than 400 watts from both cabin outlets. Heat gun test.
