The battery tray was designed to accommodate different size batteries based on powertrain configuration and options. When the tray was designed for the gen14 trucks in 2021 a diesel was available and the tray will accommodate the large H8 battery necessary for that engine. Currently in the 22 and 23 models Ford has chose to continue using the same tray, thus the additional real estate. Generally the XL / XLT Trucks are equipped with an H6 battery and all Lariat and above are equipped with an H7 battery whether the truck a.s.s. or there all the same batteries. :)

There are just to many components involved with A.S.S to know exactly what was missing that caused Ford to delete it. ICE A.S.S trucks have an additional electric coolant pump under the hood to circulate coolant for the heating system during an A.S.S event. They also have an electric pump in the transmission to maintain fluid pressure for A.S.S. , plus additional chips and circuitry to make this all happen. The starters and batteries are all the same on ICE trucks A.S.S or not. As for power boost trucks there a whole different animal as far as A.S.S goes, and my friend @Snakebitten can give a detailed outline as to how that works.
