Rust on new transfer case? Normal?

I just picked up a 2021 STX crew 4x4 5.0, I have less than 200 miles on it. I was installing some side steps tonight and noticed this rust on the rear diff… is this normal or was something not coated correctly??

Everything under the truck looks brand new… black and painted?

They could have just missed it when coating. Originally Ford stopped coating parts and people complained. So they starting coating them again, the rust doesn’t hurt anything. If you don’t like it you can complain to your dealership or just clean and paint them yourself.

Mine was built in August 2021. When I picked it up in October I didn't see any rust in that area but I was under it last night and mine is similar.

The 5L I bought in May from KY had this issue but my new 3.5EB from Dearborn is totally rust free.

Anybody ever hear of the little know company that goes by the name of " Currie Enterprises"? As part of their manufacturing process, they set all of their newly built rear end housings outside to get coated in surface rust. It actually makes the part stronger. Then they are blasted and painted.

I had rust when I received my truck. It had been 3 weeks since it was built. I took a brush to the surface rust and then sprayed the under carriage with surface shield. Should help keep things clean.

Did you use three whole cans to coat just the rear axle or did you coat other things too ?

2.5ish cans for the whole truck. Can #3 has some left in it.
