Got an update from a different person at the customer care team as my normal person is out today apparently. This representative gave me much more information than my usual one does.

She said that my backorder ranking is 102 and that as of 7 days ago, 108 units were sent to the packager “so hopefully that means you are one of those 108 units.”

She also said that the dealer had not escalated my part order despite that they said they did and she had them set the order status to “vehicle off road” to escalate the order. Hopefully I get some better news soon in light of this new information…

I think the year is wrong on my "blend" date -- should be 12/23/21

Thanks for catching that. Excel was being helpful and auto-completed the year. Looks like it did for me as well.

Hey guys, How many of you with leaks have had overheat events? Can we add this to your charts? I'm wondering if the selector valve gets stuck causing the coolant to overheat and melt\deform the plastic.

all of my overheats were at speeds less than highway speeds.

I drove it from Granger in Iowa all the way to South Florida, and the first time i saw the thermostat change to a number and start increasing (on day 2 of owning the truck from Nashville to Asheville), I was slowing down on the highway in heavy traffic. when i got back up to speed again everything was fine and the temp went back to the 12 o'clock position.

that was pretty much the MO for the rest of the drive back home.

I originally thought it was linked to the ICE shutting off when it did that.

but even on battery only, a few of my overheats were with the ICE engine not even running (electric mode).

i never received a CEL.

not sure if that helps at all

My coolant has never actually showed an overheat condition (the gauge never moved despite the message and limp mode). No leaks. Just CEL. 5000 miles into the CEL and have added no coolant and only 1 limp mode event

That's a good question. Once your truck hits your dealer, I'd ask their service dept. to check the part number. if it's ML3Z-5A212-S, then I'd consider not taking possession of it and have them emergency order the correct part, which is either ML3Z-5A212-V for a 6.5 foot bed or ML3Z-5A212-W for the 5.5, which seems to be the more popular part and takes longer to get.
Neil, is this part number easy to spot on the unit while installed? Thanks

300 miles post-repair. back in the shop this morning.

so clearly the W/V parts are not enhancements of the original S part.

Edit:

Once they diagnose it, they won't let me take it home unless i sign a waiver. waiting for a call back from my Ford Rep. I have it back home now since they couldn't look at it today, going in tomorrow morning to drop it off. And i'm guessing i wont see it again for a month (or ever if its the same defective part again? Then what?).

This was the biggest puddle i've seen from the original or replacement part ever. It was nice out today in South Florida, i had the windows down and didn't have any AirCon or any climate controls on.

It was a 25 minute drive, then a 20-30 minute stop. When i came back out, this was waiting for me.

Was it a coincidence that I lost the most amount of fluid with the Climate Controls completely off for the whole drive?

Yes. It is stamped on the pipe. See page 34 of this thread for more info.

What a nightmare. So, is 300 mi the threshold before the part fails or is that just a coincidence? I only had 300 on my -S before I noticed the leak. I've only put on 150 mi post-fix and so far so good. I guess that's the next column for the spreadsheet. And since I'm the only -V fixed so far on the sheet, that should be interesting too. You should ask to take pics of the part when they remove it for signs of what is causing the failure. Check the part number too. This is BS.

its pretty clear that this is a design flaw, especially since a different part number exhibits the same issue.

Technically it hasnt been "diagnosed" yet.

once it cools down im going to crawl under it and see if i can see it leaking.

Im guessing my Ford Rep will offer to buy the truck back from me, again.

When you take a look, see if you can confirm the part number.

this is the only part number i can visibly see. and 90 mins post-driving, everything is bone dry. not so much as a drop of anything anywhere.

edit: does anyone know where it would say -V/W or -S?

Hi there! This doesn't sound like an experience we want you to have with your F-150. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? I'd be happy to see how I can assist you on my end.

@Ford Motor Company i've had a case number since February. And my last DM to you on March 14th went unanswered.
