FORScan Laptop

I'm am looking to purchase an inexpensive laptop to use for FORScan changes. Does anyone have any suggestions or features that I should look for?

I just grabbed a used dell 7400 2in1 off of ebay for $300. Works great for that use.

There’s not really anything specific the laptop needs. I use a OBDLink MX wireless OBDII Scanner for my connection and I’m sure any laptop you buy will have wireless. If you have something like an ELM327 adapter which’s connect via USB then it has to have a USB port. I use a laptop with a 13 inch screen. My 2018 didn’t work well with the OBDLink MX so I boutght the ELM327, my 2021 would work with my ELM327 and worked perfectly with my OBDLink, which I thought was weird. The wireless one is a lot easier since you aren’t restricted by the USB cable length.

I ended up getting a refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad T470 in excellent condition for < $200 on Amazon. Not the latest or greatest, but will do everything that I need it to.

If you gmy it literally just for forscan, all it really needs is windows and Bluetooth if you get a Bluetooth odb tool. Some good suggestions already, no need to break the bank.

Most of the functionality seems to work if you use it with Crossover. I was using it that way for a while until it started having issues with loading some modules (IPMA in my case). You probably could run it on a mac using Parallels with a Windows VM, but at that point you're already more than half way there to just buying a cheap windows laptop.

Yes, not natively tho. Dual boot windows with boot camp or in a virtualization container (VMware, virtual box etc…) on intel based macs only

If I understand correctly, their is a scaled down version for both Android and iOS. As to what functionality is not included with these versions, I do not know.

I have both a Windows and Mac laptop for work. I use the Windows machine for ease of use. I also 'splurged' $12 for a year Forscan license.

They deserve to be paid for their work.

If you use bootcamp, needs to be an intel based Mac. I have no issue with FDRS or Forscan. I would not use virtualization if you plan to flash anything, because the VM interfacing to the ports can get iffy.

You need a PC to do any programming with forscan. Iphone and Android only let you read. No programming.
