Darren Palmer Confirms 2022 12-15K production numbers are not accurate...

I have seen this mentioned in a few threads, but never a source.

The source was the InsideEVs podcast, at about the 4:50 mark. Youtube link here.

No confirmation of the real number for competitive advantage, but it would imply that 2022 production is >15K. Good news.

He also said that he expects 80k-90k in 2023 which is different than what was reported earlier that they would "ramp up to 80k in 2024". If I was betting on it I would say they will make 30,000-40,000 in the 2022 calendar year.

With the current supply chain issues, 1000s and 1000s of 2021 F150s still sitting in lots I would be extremely surprised if they get near 30k in 2022.

Chips really aren't the issue with the EVs, it's batteries.

EVs are a fraction of their production, so they could supply them without issue by just delaying a few ICE production runs.

Ford produces 150k to 250k cars a month.

Darren palmer said in his interview with insideEV that they are prioritizing the EV vehicles and they actually use less of the low-tech chips they are having issues getting but use more high-tech chips which don't have a supply problem. He said the problem is the chips like voltage regulators and that. I believe EV vehicles have quite a few less of these chips as well due to having less dedicated control units.

They sell 1M F150s a year, they could easily scavenge chips from ICE vehicles to keep EVs rolling off the line and not even make a meaningful dent in the ICE vehicle deliveries.

Ford sells almost 1M F-series a year, including the Super Duty. F150 is about 650 to 700k.

Thanks for the clarification but it doesn't change my point. My understanding is the chips aren't vehicle specific so they can most likely scavenge chips from anywhere in their lineup. They deliver 150K-200K vehicles a month, I don't think moving a few thousand extra to the Lightnings would be an issue.
