Hi there,do you think these trucks still need a break in period before towing and going on highways?

For towing, the manual still recommends not towing for the first 1000 miles. You want to give everything time to work in. Especially the gears/transmission when it comes to towing.

BREAKING-IN
Your vehicle requires a break-in period. For the first 1,000 mi (1,600 km), avoid driving at high speeds, heavy braking, aggressive shifting or using your vehicle to tow. During this time, your vehicle may exhibit some unusual driving characteristics.

Looks like my camping trips are done for this year.

Driving 3.5 hours home from the dealership without using cruise control is not going to be fun.

Many of us have driven hundreds of miles after picking up our builds from Granger in IA or Chapman in PA. It was over 900 miles for us, but luckily we split it up with visits to family in MD and VA. But otherwise, just drove it. You can use cruise, just lock out different gears and run different speeds, 55, 60, 65, 70, etc. Add in a couple off ramps or side roads if you want. No need to overthink it. You'll be fine.

Pretty much what he ^^^ said.

I simply use the up/down button on the shifter to lock out gears. This varies the RPMs. I’ll hold at different RPMs for a couple of minutes then change to another. I don’t rev higher than 4K in the first 500 miles. After that I drive it normally.

Fortunately, Ford's owners manual doesn't say "no cruise control"; it says "For the first 1,000 mi (1,600 km), avoid driving at high speeds, heavy braking, aggressive shifting or using your vehicle to tow". I took a few trips to visit family in the first two weeks to get my 1000 miles and used cruise control regularly. Granted, I used the cruise "+" and "-" buttons to vary my speed (which Ford also doesn't say I needed to do), but they were very comfortable drives. I also changed oil after getting 1100 miles, something else that Ford doesn't require.

If you follow the above advice you will have a good chance of never burning oil for as long as you own the truck. Make sure to accelerate healthily (maybe 30-40% throttle to get you up to speed), this has always helped me to seat the rings. Keeping in mind right off the assembly line most motors run WOT.

Just take it easy for the first thousand.

Then change the oil

then put on a racing helmet and give ‘er absolute hell!!!

Thanks all. Was definitely overthinking this and I will follow the guidance suggested.
