Hello ya'll, new to the forums.
I haven't found too many threads for the newer f150s over this. I have a 2022 f150 with the 5.0 and 3.31 gears. I finally found a shop that would be willing to install some yukon gears of my liking. I plan to not go larger than 35s and occasionally tow about 5-6k pounds. I've been debating on choosing between 3.73s and 4.11s. My worry is that 4.11s might be too much but I'm not really sure. I live in Texas so going 75-80mph isn't uncommon. Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Are they able to re-gear the existing 8.8 rear end or do you need to move to the 9.75 for the new gears?

There’s a lot of charts online to look at the at each tire size. The jeep guys have gone into this in crazy detail. When you see the exact rpm difference for the same tire size it can help

I've looked at those but I don't see any for the f150 10 spd

I would ask your shop if they will let you try them both. if its a drop in gear set they might. just spit balling here. unless you are buying and they are just an install shop.

4.11’s for sure. The lower the better on that 5.0 with 35’s.

So doing the math, 4.11s and 35s would put me at 2000rpm's at 80 mph and 1500 rpm's doing 60 mph.

I've looked at those but I don't see any for the f150 10 spd
Then you’re going to have to do the math. There’s also tables with the ratios of the individual gears on the 10r80, the gears are super close together and if you gear the rear diff. wrong you’re just losing either your top or bottom gears effectiveness.

With my 3.73 and stock 32.6” tires, my truck feels geared pretty short stock. The tow rating is for over 10K pounds and depending on your GCWR, even with the taller gearing Ford’s table for maximum towing capacity has over 9K pounds listed for 3.15/3.31 gears.

If it were me, I would just go with the larger tires first and see what the difference is before spending money on gears. Then you will get the feeling of the 7.5% difference between tires and be able to see and feel how the performance is hurt by that. Then you will have a better idea of of if you want to go 4.11 or 3.73.

Also, don’t forget about the front differential if you have 4X4.

Good luck!

4WD truck? I looked into getting my old 4WD F-150 regeared for 35s and the rear isn't too much work but pulling the transfer case and regearing that was ~$2k if I remember right.

Why in the world would you regear the transfer case??

Just rear diff and front diff if he has 4wheel drive.

It’s still likely to be $2k+ if he has a shop do it but it’s only the diffs.

In 10th gear I assume, which is about perfect. Add any sort of load, wind, hill, and especially a trailer and you won’t be in 10th gear.
