Tailgate unlatches but won’t open

2021 Lariat powerboost 48k miles


from either the fob, button, or button in the cab the tailgate will unlatch and drop a very small amount but won’t lower. There is resistance when you pull on the the tailgate. It will latch back shut by pushing on it.

I’ve had a roll up cover on for ~25k miles and it never encountered issues before.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated

Temp change, or out of adjustment?

Once I put the cover on mine, it never dropped on its own again.

Doesn't bother me. I figure it is indicative of a good seal.

Maybe. I’ll look more closely it’s not impacting. I am in Texas and it is damn hot here now. But wouldn’t pulling on it bring it past the contact and then it would drop?

It does. There’s a lot of resistance when I try to pull it

I don't know how to post a vid but once mine is clear of the cover, it drops as it should.

It requires pulling it a touch but ... Like a half inch or so.

Mine does not. Just goes springs back up. Like pulling on a spring

Might be something in your damping system but I'd look for an obstruction at the bottom of the tailgate. A twig, a forgotten tool, something like that., that found its way into a place causing conflict.

If you have autoclose maybe something is malfunctioning with that system. Worth a trip to the dealership.

Maybe. It’s almost like the solenoid that opens the latch works. But the motor that lowers it never engages.
I took the cover panel off to look inside and the latches are opening and closing just fine. It feels like a stuck motor when you pull on it

I tired the "pull harder and see what happens" method and now the tailgate lowers as it should. But the auto up doesn't work. When you hit the button the lights flash and nothing happens. So. Progress?

Exact same problem with my 2021 Lariat. The week after the 3 year warranty expired.
Am afraid to pull it harder in case i break something.
Did you ever get this resolved?
