Rust under brand new truck, dealer now doing free coating

For the price you pay for these trucks, there should be near zero rust. I get that the parts have been sitting outside for extended periods, but that is ridiculous. It looks horrible on a new truck, imagine in 10 years...

I keep hearing that this is okay and only cosmetic, which may be true. But when you are in a sedan you can see the grimy looking rust from the back, looks like crap. If ford started sending our trucks with uneven paint that had different color, would we say it’s ok because it’s only cosmetic? It comes down to some of these trucks parts were missed being sprayed, shouldn’t have happened. When I was at the dealer today, all the f-250 parts WERE sprayed and looked flawless like all the used chevys on the lot.

There was a brand new 2021 lariat on the lot with a 68k sticker and this is what it looked like…..

My truck had 13 miles on it when I bought it in December 2021 and had rust on the rear axle, differential, brake caliper mounts, exhaust hangers, and driveline components. I have pictures and documented it with my dealer the day after I got it home and crawled (in the snow) under my brand new truck. I'll PM you too!

I’m picking mine up this morning… curious to see how it looks after the free undercoating. They had it for two days. hopefullly they cleaned it well and let it dry. Will send some pictures later today.

So here’s what it looks like… they said “they sprayed everything they are allowed to spray when doing undercoatings”…

So they did the frame and other areas, but didn’t really do much with the crappy looking areas…

That sucks, your new truck is nice! Looks like mine has more rust than yours… there was a lariat on the lot today that looked absolutely horrible. Ford should be embarrassed and the my dealer should be embarrassed to have it on their lot.

Just picked up my '21 last week. Has a build date of 12/21, Kansas City MO. I have the same rust at the front of the differential and at the ends of the rear axle, Doesn't really bother me as it will happen eventually no matter what I do, where I live with all of the salt they put down in winter.. My last F150 was purchased used so it already had some surface rust on those parts at 5 years old.

My guess is they will say this is normal, and the rust is not covered under any warranty.

FORD thinks rust is NORMAL.

Chevy and gmc should come up with a commercial showing the difference underneath of new vehicles… maybe that’ll prompt them to change. As much as I like my truck, I have Serious doubts about the quality control and integrity of ford.

With a Toyota there is NO WAY these parts would have made it into production, much less off to the dealers. I’m pretty sure in the next 5 -10 years we will see something like the Tacoma’s where they were all rusted out. I had a friend who had rust new on his tacomas, they eventually recalled it because some of the rust on THICK parts of the spare mount finally rusted through, and the spare was literally falling off the trucks…

Picked up a new 2021 5.0 STX crew and lots of rusty areas under the truck. Posted some pictures on my dealers google review and they reached out and they are going to do an undercarriage coating. I’m sitting at 3700 miles. Is it okay to do this late? The rust isn’t must worse than when I drove it off the lot.

Never had a vehicle that looked like this… especially new. My wife’s 2.5 year old highlander not any visible rust.

Gonna dive under my truck today and double check for rust. I only have 1900 miles and you can bet they’re gonna fix anything I see

Took a look under mine today. There is some surface rust but not near as much as shown in some of the pictures. It actually looks like some parts are being coated, and some aren’t.

I’ve had my truck since 12/28.

Had the same issues with mine although not as bad as yours, it was built Nov 28th and delivered dec 12th. I’ve had it oil sprayed but I went under the truck myself and touched up areas for now until I can clean it up more in the spring. Pretty bullshit we spend this much on a truck and it’s rusted day 1
