Ya I tried for a day until the battery tender said it was "charged" but it still failed to update. I'm sure its state of charge doing it, but I don't think the battery tender has enough current to change that unless I left it for days on end.

I would venture a guess my salem hemisphere 25 rbhl is similar to your unit. I have almost 1900 lbs of payload, and don't have any issue, but i keep an eye on the tongue weight. Limiting factor for me more than anything else is trailer length. I would not tow anything longer with my truck.
