It’s because they include the step. The step is steel and has to hold a fat ass so it’s heavy. Go lift the tailgate in a truck that doesn’t have the step and you will be amazed how light it is.
Agreed. My younger daughter (what a wimp!) couldn't even lift my tailgate when we got my truck. I'm sure she can now, but still. Also, I added aftermarket pneumatic dampener, because if you can't manually hold the tailgate as it falls it will SLAM with all that weight.

What's funny is I have a shell so I never really use the step to climb in. BUT I use it a LOT as a footrest for the perfect chillin position on the tailgate.

Wow! 45lbs+ for the power tailgate? That's more than I would have thought but I guess it needs a pretty hefty motor. Is that a well-informed estimate or did you read it somewhere?

I really just wanted the step but you can't get that by itself. Might be better to keep a step-stool in the bed and claw back the payload.
I don't remember where the link is but there is the "ford body builder" guide that has every single option (I think there was a 2015 version and a later 2018 version posted at some point) and shows the weight on EACH axle, and the overall payload. The power tailgate was the only option where it TOOK OFF weight from one of the axles. I think it reduced the front axle weight by about 2-3 pounds while the rear took a massive hit.

I'm going to remove it from my build. It would be really nice to have (especially for that chillin position!) but that's just too much weight for my payload needs.

Short of a "ford body builder" tool for 2021, I'd love to see more stickers posted here so we can triangulate our numbers.

I like the step idea for $400... I don’t like the power up part (not garage kept and I don’t need it, but they force yet another option to get something you want. Not paying $750 for the step... to lose payload and deal with that motor some day.

I was annoyed that the being forced to add power lift gate for the step. Granted I think it might be useful for bringing in groceries, so I don't need to make another trip outside to close it. Just need automatic door open on my house and automatic dog restraint so the pooch doesn't go for a evening jont around the neighborhood, when the door is open. In any case it looks like it takes only about 5 or 10 minutes to remove the tailgate, if you are worried about weight. If towing and you are cutting it close, chances are you aren't using the bed anyway.

The middle truck is the lariat with the stickers attached. In comparing it to the others, it looks like the power tailgate is only 30-40 lbs. The payload sticker in the post above this one shows 1682, whereas the one in my post is 1715. The difference? Wheel well liners and the power tailgate. The reason I say 30-40 is because that higher payload stickered truck ALSO has tow mirrors, which I imagine adds another 10-15 lbs to the truck? Hope this helps!
Oh. I ordered a truck last night, so that’s pretty fun.

Easy question that I hope someone could clarify... is the increased 7150# GVWR package above(sticker 23208) a result of the 157'' wheelbase or the 5.0 engine? Thanks!
