Most dealer filters used for routine service are showing to be on backorder. It might be a good idea to buy a couple extra fuel, oil and air filters for maintenance needs wherever you can find them. Ford has a mess on their hands and can't keep up with any kind of normal production.

Yes, It's always a good idea to have spare filters and fluids on hand for your truck. I really should get a couple of spare cabin filters. My previous F-150's didn't have cabin filters.

Are you talking about OEM filters or aftermarket because if it's OEM, I might stock up as that's all I want to use as I don't want any issues voiding warranty.

Where did you see things on back order? Haven't seen it, even Amazon has filters (oil, cabin, air) for next day delivery at normal prices.

Maybe that’s where all the filters are going? They’re trying to make them the next baby formula and toilet paper :p

I used my Fordpass points to get extra filters and would have gotten more because the points expire after a year but I also took out my passenger side tow mirror turn signal that had a conflict with a bank drive-through bollard. So it’s also quite possible that more people than Ford expected are buying $200 in oil and air filters because they change their own oil and don’t trust the average dealership hack with their trucks if they can’t help it. Had the points not expired, I probably wouldn’t have gotten the extra filters since I like to have fresh stock.

I do like to keep an extra filter in the truck in case something happens to the installed one but I have also just kept the old filter too. Once, I did have a newer filter go bad that had rusted through under the sticker.

Also, Fordtechmakuloco has a video comparing counterfeit Ford parts and there’s also significant content on the Honda side of things with fake filters and even transmission fluid.

I only use OEM filters but they are really hard to find right now. Ford parts told me today that they do not have oil filters for my 3.0 Powerstroke anymore and they are expected no sooner than the end of July. They also no longer had oil for the little Diesel engine available. It's going to get interesting seeing how Ford is going to deal with all these vehicles that they can't perform routine maintenance on.

I'd be ok with a different brand of oil if the dealership couldn't get Motorcraft oil. There are several good brands out there. I don't know enough about aftermarket filters to feel comfortable using them. but if I my dealership couldn't get any OEM ones, I would hope they could recommend one that wouldn't void the warranty.

I now currently have more inventory than Ford does at https://parts.ford.com and ready for a years worth of maintenance! Took 5 different vendors across the country to source all the required pieces. It is absurd that Ford can't even provide the required filters to take care of our trucks anymore!
