I didn't know you can read alcohol fuel %? What? Is this an actual PID?
It's enabled on the 5.0 flex fuel vehicles. Has been since 2003 in my old suburban. Many cars can read that pid. Just need an ob2 scanner to read or hp tuners.

I have HPT. I will log it and see. I wonder if the Tomahawk will read it.

Here’s a good chart listing BTUs and gallon of gas equivalent percentages.

E100 is a bit of a misnomer because you can’t distill anhydrous ethanol and E96 or E98 is as much as you can hope for without creating something so hygroscopic that it would just pull the water out of the air anyway and no longer be E100.

Most fuel these days has ethanol in it and when mixed with gasoline it’s a big loser for total energy. So added in small numbers it’s not a straight percentage added up; but a net loss. Which is one of the reasons why some people get so excited finding ethanol free gasoline.

So even though a pound of gasoline has 120,000 BTU and a pound of ethanol has 75,000 the math is more complicated, even if you adjust for a gallon of gas weighing around 6LBS, with ethanol weighing 6.5LBS.

It’s also going to be even more complicated by driving style and conditions because E85 and E10 gas are probably going to have different brake specific fuel consumption maps. Especially on something like the flex fuel 5.0 Coyote motor which is optimized for running E85. So the 30% loss in range is just an estimate.

I'm seeing 16 MPG in my truck. I wonder how E85 would do for me... It's about $.80 cheaper per gallon.

I would take a month of gas bills from your bank. Put them in a spreadsheet. Then do a month on e85 driving to work. See what it costs you. The delta of the two will tell you if e85 is cheaper. For me I run 93 octane. It's cheaper to run e85 since the cost delta is 1.55 difference. I can run all month on e85 and it's still the same price or better.

is that confirmed that the 5.0 is no longer flex fuel in the 24' models? Saw a thread on here recently that discussed this but it didn't seem to have any clear answers.

My window sticker doesn’t say flex fuel.

Ford makes the best truck engines across the lineup! They have that 5.0 just about perfect now
I did notice 384 miles to empty with a full tank...I hope you have the 26 gallon lol.

14.7mpg estimated ;)

Once you snap a picture the forensics start lol
I'm getting 15.1 miles per gallon on E85. I guess it could be worse.

I recently added 35 inch tires and have been running E85 for 1000 miles now. I am sitting at or about 14mpg.
